Tips for foreigners renting accommodation in Ukraine
1. Check the documents yourself.
2. Make sure you are dealing with the owner of the flat or their representative: ask to see their identity document.
3. The tenant must check all documents confirming the owner's right to the flat, such as purchase and sale or gift agreements, certificates of inheritance, property rights, etc.
4. The technical passport of the flat must be up to date, and the flat itself must correspond to the passport (check the area, number of rooms, engineering systems).
5. The flat must be suitable for living. All basic engineering communications must be in working order (water, heat and electricity supply, drainage, ventilation).
6. Choose flats in safe regions – Lviv, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk or Chernivtsi regions).

How to avoid falling into the hands of scammers when looking for an apartment?
1. Check the meter readings before moving in and include them in the contract.
2. Pay the deposit directly upon moving in. A common practice among scammers is to ask for a deposit from several potential buyers and then not contact them afterwards.
3. Pay attention to market prices and avoid renting suspiciously cheap flats.
4. If the photos look too perfect and photoshopped, check them using Google search.
5. The landlord may tell you that there are many people interested in renting the flat and offer to reserve it for an additional fee. This is a common tactic used by scammers to get money and then disappear.
6. You should only provide photos and copies of your documents after signing the contract.
