Transfer or taxi? How to choose the most convenient way to travel in Ukraine and its advantages
For a comfortable trip around Ukraine, you can use taxi or transfer services. Find out when it is better to choose a transfer and when another option of transportation would be more convenient
Planning a trip always raises many questions, and one of the most important ones is how to get from point A to point B comfortably, safely, and without unnecessary expenses. In Ukraine, as in many other countries, tourists often face a choice: order a regular taxi or use a transfer service. Both options have their own characteristics, but understanding their differences will help you make the right choice.
What is a transfer and how does it differ from a taxi?
A transfer is a pre-ordered passenger transport service at a fixed price. It is usually an individual trip for one passenger or a group, provided by a professional driver in a comfortable car. Unlike a taxi, which you can hail on the street or order through an app, a transfer is booked in advance, usually online or by phone.
Key features of a transfer
Fixed price. You know the cost before you travel, which protects you from unpleasant surprises due to traffic jams or route changes.
Pre-confirmed booking. You don't have to worry about the availability of a car. The driver will be waiting for you at the designated place and time.
Professional drivers. They usually know the route well and will help you with your luggage, as well as provide a high level of service.

Advantages of a transfer over a taxi
A transfer has many advantages, especially when it comes to long journeys or travelling with a lot of luggage.
Transparent pricing. This is perhaps one of the biggest advantages. The cost of the trip does not depend on unpredictable factors, allowing you to plan your budget accurately. Whereas with a taxi, the price may increase due to traffic jams, adverse weather conditions or increased demand.
Convenience for airports, train stations and hotels. If you have arrived in an unfamiliar city, a transfer is the best option. The driver will wait for you with a sign in the arrivals area or on the platform, help you with your luggage and take you to your hotel without any hassle. You won't have to look for a taxi rank or wait for a free car.
Passenger safety and insurance. Companies that provide transfer services carefully monitor the condition of their cars, and drivers undergo regular checks. In addition, passengers are usually insured, which adds confidence in the safety of the trip.
Possibility of pre-ordering online. You can book a transfer several months before your trip, which allows you to organise your trip without stress. You simply choose the route, time, type of vehicle and pay for the trip.
When might a taxi be a better option?
Despite all the advantages, a transfer is not always the best solution. A taxi may be more convenient for short trips within the city when you need to move quickly from one location to another. Thanks to mobile apps such as Bolt or Uklon, you can call a car in a few minutes and get to your destination. Taxis also offer more flexibility in choosing a route — if you decide to make an unexpected stop, it is easier to negotiate with a taxi driver than with a transfer service.
However, for tourists planning long-distance trips, for example, from Kyiv to Lviv or from the airport to another city, a transfer is still the best choice. It provides maximum comfort, safety and financial predictability.
