European rail transport continues to expand in the direction of Ukraine. Find out when Leo Express plans to launch a direct train from Frankfurt am Main to Przemyśl, what the route will be, and how much tickets will cost
The Czech railway company Leo Express, a subsidiary of the Spanish national carrier Renfe, plans to launch a direct rail link between Germany and the Ukrainian border in 2026. The route will run from Frankfurt am Main to Przemyśl and is expected to become another important transport corridor for passengers from Eastern and Central Europe.
These plans were reported by the industry publication Railmarket.com.
The Przemyśl–Frankfurt am Main route: through Poland, the Czech Republic, and Germany
According to Railmarket.com, the train route will start in Przemyśl, a city that has become a key “gateway” for Ukrainians traveling to EU countries by rail since the start of russia's full-scale war against Ukraine.
The train will then travel through Poland, stopping in the following cities: Rzeszów, Tarnów, Kraków, Katowice, and Tychy.
After that, the route will pass through the Czech Republic. Stops are planned in Bohumin, Ostrava, Olomouc, Pardubice, Prague, Kralupy nad Vltavou, Usti nad Labem, and Decin.
In Germany, the train will stop in Bad Schandau, Dresden, Leipzig, Weimar, Erfurt, Fulda, Hanau, Offenbach, Frankfurt am Main, and Frankfurt Airport.
The total length of the route exceeds 1,300 kilometers, making it one of the longest international rail routes in the region.
