A new rail route will connect Prague, Berlin, and Copenhagen in 2026: what travelers can expect
A new direct route between Prague, Berlin, and Copenhagen will be launched in 2026. Find out how long the journey will take, when the night train will start running, which stops are planned, and how much tickets may cost
In 2026, tourists will have another convenient way to travel between European countries without transfers and exhausting flights. As Travel Off Path writes, a new direct rail route will appear in the spring, connecting three capitals at once — Prague, Berlin, and Copenhagen. These are modern, dynamic cities that attract tourists with their architecture, culture, museums, and nightlife.
This route is a continuation of the pan-European policy of supporting rail transport and reducing short-haul flights in favor of environmentally friendly modes of transport.
Launch on May 1: who is launching the route and how will it work?
The route was created through the joint efforts of three major state-owned carriers:
● ČD — Czech Railways,
● DB — Deutsche Bahn (Germany),
● DSB — Danish State Railways.
The European Commission has already called the project “an example of sustainable rail transport development” and an important step in reducing the number of regional flights.
What will change for tourists?
Previously, there was only a direct connection between Prague and Berlin. To get to Copenhagen:
● passengers from Berlin had to change trains in Hamburg;
● travelers from Prague had to make two transfers.
The new route eliminates these difficulties — now there will be direct day and night trains between the three capitals.

Schedule and travel time: fast, convenient, and without unnecessary transfers
Transportation will be provided by modern ComfortJet trains, which can reach speeds of up to 225 km/h and accommodate 555 passengers.
Key route parameters:
● Prague — Copenhagen: approximately 11 hours, including an overnight journey;
● Berlin — Copenhagen: approximately 7 hours;
● Number of flights: two daily in each direction;
● Stops: Dresden (between Prague and Berlin) and Hamburg (between Berlin and Copenhagen).
The trains are equipped with a restaurant car, adjustable seats, and even a small cinema, making long journeys more comfortable.
Experts recommend paying attention to first class, especially if the journey will take more than 10 hours. It will have 99 seats, so the extra comfort does not turn into a closed “premium zone.” This is the best choice for a long trip when you want peace and quiet and more space.
How much will tickets cost? Preliminary estimates
Official prices have not yet been announced, but based on other new routes, the following estimates are expected:
● Standard ticket: from approximately $75
● First-class sleeping berth: from $270
Although this is more expensive than a short flight, it is important to remember that a night ticket includes transportation, accommodation, and a location in the city center without transfers.
For those planning a large-scale trip through Europe, experts advise paying attention to the Eurail pass. It allows you to visit more than 30 countries with a flexible choice of routes. The approximate price is $315.
