Ukrainians are increasingly choosing motorcycles as their primary mode of transportation. Find out which brands became the most popular in 2025, how the market has changed, and why Chinese manufacturers are overtaking Japanese leaders
Demand for motorcycles in Ukraine continues to grow despite the autumn slowdown. Find out which brands have become the most popular among Ukrainian bikers, how the market has changed in 2025, and why Chinese brands are confidently ousting Japanese “veterans” from their leading positions.
The motorcycle market in Ukraine: seasonal fluctuations and growth in demand
According to data from the Automotive Market Research Institute, Ukrainians purchased more than 7,000 motorcycles in September 2025, which is 11.2% more than in the same period last year. At the same time, compared to August, sales fell by 18.1%, which is explained by the seasonal decline after the summer peak.
The motorcycle segment is one of the most weather- and season-dependent transport markets. In summer, demand for motorcycles rises sharply, while in autumn, with the onset of cold weather, there is a traditional decline in sales. However, even in the off-season, the market shows stable annual growth, indicating a gradual expansion of the motorcycle community in Ukraine.
Sales structure: new, used, and domestic resales
The total number of motorcycle purchases in September was 7,000 units.
Among them:
● 56.6% (3,982 units) — new motorcycles imported from abroad;
● 35.4% (2,491 units) — domestic resales on the Ukrainian market;
● 7.9% (559 units) — used motorcycles imported from other countries.
The dynamics in terms of sub-segments show regular seasonality:
● Domestic resales: −7.5% M-M, +13.9% Y-Y;
● Imports of used motorcycles: −19.8% M-M, +34.1% Y-Y;
● Imports of new motorcycles: −23.4% M-M, +7.0% Y-Y.
In other words, even with a noticeable monthly decline, all three areas are growing on an annual basis, confirming the gradual recovery of the market.

Domestic market: Honda's leadership and the rise of Chinese brands
Among motorcycles sold domestically, Honda remains the leader — a brand that has been associated with reliability and versatility for many years. However, it is being closely followed by Chinese brands Lifan and Geon, which are rapidly gaining popularity thanks to their affordable prices and updated models.
Yamaha came in fourth place, trailing Chinese manufacturers by only a few percent in sales.
Used motorcycles from abroad: Japanese “legends” and cult brands
The segment of used motorcycles imported from abroad remains more conservative. Ukrainians traditionally prefer the Japanese “big four” — Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki, which have proven their reliability over the years.
Among the less popular but recognizable brands are Harley-Davidson, Ducati, Indian, KTM, and Triumph. Such bikes are often chosen by true connoisseurs for whom a motorcycle is not just a means of transportation but also a part of their lifestyle. Despite their age, these models are imported into Ukraine in excellent condition and continue their “second life” on our roads.
New motorcycles: Spark, Lifan, and Musstang — the top three
In the new bike segment, the battle for supremacy was fierce last month.
The top three were led by Spark, Lifan, and Musstang.
The difference between them was minimal — only a few dozen units sold. This time, only Chinese and Indian manufacturers made it into the top 10, which indicates significant changes in the market.
Safe travel — compulsory insurance for cars and motorcycles
If you travel on Ukrainian roads on a motorcycle, don't forget about compulsory motor vehicle insurance (CMVI). It is mandatory for all vehicles and protects against unforeseen expenses in the event of an accident, covering damages caused to third parties.
You can get car insurance online through the Visit Ukraine platform — it's fast, legal, and affordable.
