When taking out a Green Card insurance policy, drivers often face the question of how to verify the validity of the certificate. Most often, this need arises because, according to the rules, the insurance policy cannot take effect from the current date, but only from the following day. To avoid problems when crossing the border, we recommend checking your insurance policy in advance to ensure that the information provided and the policy terms are correct. Below, we provide detailed instructions on how to do this through the MTIBU Centralised Database.

What insurance information can be checked through the MTIBU?

1. Whether the international compulsory motor third-party liability insurance contract is valid on a specific date.

2. Current information about the insurer that issued the policy for the vehicle.

To perform such a check, the driver must have the policy number and series, or vehicle details (licence plate number or VIN code).

How to check the validity of a Green Card?

1. Go to the MTIBU website and open the section ‘Centralised database’, where you can create a verification request.

2. In the search criteria, select ‘Green Card’ to check the insurance based on the certificate form data, or ‘Vehicle registration number’ to check the insurance based on the vehicle data.

3. Enter the data according to the selected criterion (certificate series or state registration number).

4. Select the date on which you want to perform the check.

Depending on the traffic on the website, the check may take several minutes.

The system may return several results:

➤ valid - this means that the insurance is valid on the date you selected;

➤ invalid - this means that the insurance has expired on the selected date;

➤ concluded but not valid - this means that the insurance has not yet come into effect on the selected date (for example, if you took out insurance ‘today’ with the start date ‘tomorrow’);

➤ not found - try repeating the request, carefully checking all the data for errors; if the information is correct but the system cannot find your policy, contact the insurer with whom you concluded the contract (contact details are indicated in your insurance policy).
