Buying a car in Ukraine: which cars are bought most often and where are the most deals recorded
Interest in buying cars is growing in Ukraine. More and more transactions are taking place online through the Diya app, with Kyiv, Lviv and Dnipropetrovsk region remaining the leaders in terms of sales. Find out which cars Ukrainians choose most often and where the most transactions are registered
In September 2025, the Ukrainian car market showed steady growth in activity. Despite economic difficulties and military risks, Ukrainians continue to actively buy and sell cars, both new and used. According to data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs service centres, more than 72,000 passenger car purchase and sale agreements were registered in the country during the month, confirming the revival of the domestic market and growing interest in vehicles. This is stated in a report by the Institute for Automotive Market Research.
Total transaction figures
As in previous months, the largest number of purchase and sale transactions were carried out through the Diya app. Almost a quarter of all transactions (about 25%) were completed remotely by Ukrainians without visiting the service centre in person. This was made possible by a simplified procedure for digital vehicle re-registration, which has gained significant popularity among drivers over the past year.
In terms of regional distribution, Kyiv traditionally holds the lead, accounting for about 12% of all transactions. This is explained by the high purchasing power of the population and the large number of car dealerships and car sales platforms. Next come the Dnipropetrovsk region (6.9%) and the Odesa region (5.3%), where there is stable demand for vehicles, especially older foreign cars.

Where are the fewest deals?
The lowest activity is recorded in the Donetsk and Kherson regions, where sales remain minimal due to the proximity to the combat zone and the temporary occupation of part of the territory. The statistics also do not take into account data for the Luhansk region and Crimea, which further affects the overall figures.
However, experts note that even in the frontline regions, demand for affordable cars is gradually growing, especially for practical and economical models. Drivers are increasingly preferring cars with low fuel consumption and simple maintenance, which is especially important in conditions of unstable infrastructure.
First registration of imported cars
It is worth noting the initial registrations of ‘freshly imported’ cars. Most of these cars were registered in the Lviv region (13.3%), which is logical given its proximity to the Polish border. Dozens of companies are actively working here, importing cars from Europe, the United States, South Korea, and China. After the closure of the Odessa ports, some of the shipments were redirected through the western regions.
Kyiv is slightly behind Lviv (13.2%), where high demand for new cars is supported by a dense concentration of businesses, banks and a financially active population. The gap between the capital and other regions remains significant — more than double.
Which cars are bought most often
Popular European and Asian brands remain at the top of Ukrainian car enthusiasts' preferences. Toyota, Skoda, Volkswagen and Renault lead the way among new cars, while Volkswagen, Ford, Opel and BMW lead among used cars. Crossovers and compact sedans are particularly in demand: they are convenient for city driving, economical and retain their resale value better.
Interest in electric cars is also growing. According to industry portals, around 9,000 electric cars were registered in Ukraine in the first eight months of 2025, a quarter more than a year earlier. Most of these are used Nissan Leaf, Tesla Model 3 and Volkswagen ID.3 models imported from Europe and the US.
