Ukraine's aspirations and continuous development on its way to EU membership are confirmed by the results of the work done. Thus, the Ukrainian language was included in the official translation system of the European Union.

The eTranslation online-tool – is a neural machine translation system used by the European Commission since 2017. From now on, Ukraine can also use the translation system for free. Previously, the tool was available only to government agencies, EU agencies, and projects that were located within the EU or Liechtenstein, Norway, or Iceland and funded by the Digital Europe program.

What is eTranslation for?

With the help of the European Translation System, Ukraine can translate any EU and Ukrainian legislation and official documents into 24 available languages, including Ukrainian. This will significantly speed up the analysis and implementation of documentation. In addition, the official translation of Ukrainian legislation for the European Commission will simplify further communication on EU accession.

Why is using the eTranslation system a strategically important step?

Ukraine joined the Digital Europe program back in 2022. This was the first step towards the country's inclusion in the official EU translation system. Subsequently, the Government Office for Coordination of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, together with DG Translate and DG Connect, actively worked on the issue.

According to the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the inclusion of the Ukrainian language in the EU translation system is a crucial strategic step for Ukraine, as it is not only international recognition but also a real tool that accelerates the process of European integration and contributes to the effectiveness of negotiations on EU membership.

What else is known about Ukraine's European integration?

Ursula Von der Leyen's recent visit to Ukraine confirmed Ukrainians' expectations of European support on the path to victory and EU membership. Thus, during the fourth summit of the Council of Europe on May 16, the President of the European Commission called on the international community to support the Ukrainian "peace formula". In her speech, she emphasized that she believes that Ukraine's approach to establishing peace on its territory has no alternative, and therefore everyone should join in and help the country on its way to victory.

In addition, Ursula Von der Leyen's visit made it clear that Ukraine is at the last stage before the start of official negotiations on EU membership. After all, according to the European Commission, the state has fulfilled 6 out of 7 points. The last step is judicial reform, namely the system of selecting judges to the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. The final score for all criteria was 6.8 points out of 10.

According to experts, negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union will begin by the end of 2023. This means that despite the terrible war unleashed by russia and all the obstacles, the country is making leaps and bounds towards European integration.
