Ukrzaliznytsia may change ticket sales to the Carpathians due to the state of action
Tickets to the Carpathians are becoming increasingly scarce — demand for routes between Kyiv and Yaremche and Kyiv and Bukovel has increased fivefold. At the same time, passengers are complaining about identification problems due to the Diia system. Find out more about the changes to ticket purchasing rules and search for alternative solutions
In the midst of the tourist season, demand for tickets to the Carpathians is growing rapidly, especially for destinations Kyiv–Yaremche and Kyiv–Bukovel (Tatariv station). Because of this, Ukrzaliznytsia is considering changing the ticket sales mechanism, in particular through the Diia app, according to the company's press service.
Demand has increased fivefold
According to the railway operator, in July, the number of ticket requests increased significantly compared to the spring period. While in April, the Kyiv-Yaremche route had an average of 502 requests per week and Kyiv-Bukovel had 484, at the end of July, these figures were 2,813 and 2,448, respectively.
The company explains that this is due to summer vacations and the popularity of the Carpathians among Ukrainian travelers.
At the same time, some seats are reserved for group transportation from frontline areas and children of military personnel.
Problems with Diia — a barrier for tourists
Despite the general trend towards digitalization, many users complain about problems with buying tickets through the Diia app. In particular, there are difficulties with obtaining an electronic signature, which is used to identify individuals when booking tickets online.
“I've been trying to get a digital signature on Diia for almost a month, and I keep getting ‘try again.’ Because of this, I have to use buses,” one traveler shared on Facebook.
Users are suggesting that Ukrzaliznytsia introduce alternative verification methods, such as through banking services or apps like BankID.

What will change?
The company is already considering upgrading its ticket sales system, taking into account the technical difficulties with Diia and the increased load on services during the summer.
Quotas for residents of frontline regions, children of military personnel, and privileged categories of citizens, who will be able to book tickets through other channels, are also not ruled out.
