On 4 April 2025, amendments to the legislation on compulsory state social insurance came into force in Ukraine. From now on, insured persons will be able to receive temporary disability and maternity benefits not only at their main place of work, but also at a part-time job.

These changes are envisaged by the Law of Ukraine No. 4158-IX dated December 18, 2024, which amends Article 22 of the Law “On Compulsory State Social Insurance”.

The right to sick leave has been expanded: who will receive more payments in 2025

The main innovations are

1. Expansion of the rights of insured persons: From now on, not only employees at their main place of work, but also those who work part-time, including entrepreneurs who have both employment contracts, are entitled to insurance payments.

2. No restrictions on the number of jobs: The law does not set a limit on the number of part-time jobs for which an employee can receive benefits.

3. Insured events: The new rules apply to insured events occurring after April 4, 2025.

Payment of sick leave in case of an accident

If an employee becomes incapacitated due to an accident at one place of work, but is in an employment relationship with another employer, then:

- The first 5 days of disability are paid by the other employer (insurer) at its own expense in the amount of 100% of the employee's average earnings, regardless of the employee's length of service.

- Starting from the 6th day, payments are made by the Pension Fund of Ukraine.

Important! In the event of a workplace accident or occupational disease, the employer who has an insured event pays for the first 17 days of disability entirely on its own. The benefit amount is 100% of the employee's average salary.
