In the course of the anonymous survey, the company
GRC.UA received analytical data on labour market challenges and key trends during martial law, changes in people management, salary cuts/increases in various industries and salary expectations.

Results of the GRC study on working conditions in Ukraine 2024

According to the GRC report, 60% of the 2,400 respondents work for Ukrainian companies, demonstrating their loyalty to domestic business. 17% of respondents have chosen international employment, seeking global opportunities. 71% have more than 10 years of experience, while 6% are young professionals and students who are just starting their careers. Equally important, 68% of respondents are employed, while the rest are looking for job opportunities.

What difficulties do Ukrainians face when looking for a job?

1. 41% cannot find a job with a decent salary;

2. 29% note a decrease in vacancies in their profession, which makes it difficult to find a suitable job;

3. 23% face discrimination based on age, which makes it even more difficult to find a job;

4. 22% say that job search requires more effort and time;

5. 22% do not receive feedback from recruiters after the interview;

6. 21% do not receive any feedback at all after the interview.

The current requirements for job candidates are high: almost 3 out of 5 expect a spoken level of English, significant experience and proven results. Employers are not ready to invest time and resources in training.

Jobseekers focus on salary. The change in priorities was driven by rising costs. The survey shows that 63% of Ukrainians are not afraid of possible lay-offs in the next six months, but 17% still expect this negative development.

Salary levels in Ukraine 2024

One of the main aspects of working conditions is salary, which remains an important issue for employees and candidates. According to the survey, 28% receive their salary in full, just like before the war. However, 12% feel it has been reduced by 10-30%, while 9% have recorded an increase by the same amount. Another 8% of respondents reported a decrease of more than 50%.

Despite the challenging period, 62% of employees are not ready to lower their salary demands, even if they are looking for a new job. Only 15% are ready to reduce their expected salary by 5%, and 10% are ready to consider an offer with a reduction in the range of 6-15%. Only 5% of respondents are ready to accept a reduction of 16-25%.

Highlights of the survey results

Even in the most challenging periods, when wartime puts people through a lot of trials, almost half of employees (56%) are satisfied with their jobs. This optimistic attitude demonstrates the internal strength and adaptability of people. Of course, we cannot ignore the fact that one in five employees is somewhat dissatisfied with their professional activities.

But amidst these challenges, there are key factors that help keep employees in the workplace. In particular, the ability to work remotely is important, as noted by 33% of respondents, as well as the friendly atmosphere in the team, which also received 33% of the votes. Flexible working hours and the ability to work remotely were also important factors for 33% of respondents.

In addition to this, safe working conditions (25%) and good relations with the manager (23%) are important for maintaining work efficiency and employee comfort. Support for common values in the team, assistance to employees in times of war, and a socially responsible business position are also gaining in importance, as mentioned by an increasing number of respondents.
