The age of cars in Ukraine is increasing: where are the oldest and newest cars driven?
The average age of cars in Ukraine continues to grow, and the gap between regions is becoming increasingly noticeable. The capital and western regions are updating their transport faster, while the east and south remain leaders in terms of the number of old cars. Find out where the oldest and newest cars are driven in Ukraine
The Ukrainian car fleet continues to age, and the trend is becoming increasingly noticeable. According to the Automotive Market Research Institute, in October 2025, the average age of a passenger car in the country reached 16.4 years — slightly more than a month earlier. For comparison, in European Union countries, this figure is about 12 years. This was reported by the Automotive Market Research Institute.
Where the car fleet is youngest
The ‘freshest’ cars are traditionally concentrated in Kyiv. The average age of a car in the capital is only 11.2 years. This is more than five years younger than the national average. A high concentration of businesses, higher income levels and a more active sales market explain the rapid renewal of the car fleet.
After Kyiv, the youngest cars are found in the western border regions — Lviv and Zakarpattia. Here, the average age is 14.5 and 14.6 years, respectively. This is influenced by the proximity to the EU: most used cars enter Ukraine through these regions, where European cars with an average age of 8-9 years quickly find their way onto the secondary market.
A relatively renewed car fleet is also observed in the Dnipropetrovsk and Kyiv regions. In these regions, the figures are practically the same as the national data for the previous month — about 15.5 years.

Regions with the oldest cars
The oldest cars are operated in regions that have been more affected by the war or are experiencing a difficult economic situation. The Donetsk region tops the anti-rating, with an average car age of 19.4 years. The situation is not much better in the Kherson region, with an average age of 19.0 years.
Such high values indicate an extremely slow renewal of the car fleet. People in regions that have been under fire or occupation are less likely to invest in transport and more likely to keep old cars as the most affordable option.
The Sumy (17.2 years) and Cherkasy (17.0 years) regions also belong to the category of regions with significantly older car fleets.
What the sales market shows
Data on car resales show interesting dynamics. In October, the average age of cars that changed owners on the domestic market was the same 16.4 years, confirming the growing demand for more affordable used cars.
The statistics on digital sales in the Diya service deserve special attention. Cars sold entirely online turned out to be even older than the average age — their age reached 16.8 years. According to experts, this means that digitalisation has simplified the lives of owners of old vehicles, who are now more actively re-registering their cars remotely.
Reminder! Citizens who have deliberately refused to obtain an identification code often wonder whether they will be able to use the services of the Ministry of Internal Affairs service centres without additional obstacles. Find out which procedures are available without an RNOKPP and how the registration process works.
