Information about some driver's licenses and vehicle registration certificates may not be reflected in modern state registries. According to the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, this applies to documents issued before the introduction of electronic registries: driver's licenses issued before 2013, as well as vehicle registration certificates issued before 2019.

The reason is simple: at that time, electronic systems were not yet operational or were only partially operational. Most of the data was only available in paper archives, and old information was not automatically transferred to modern registries. That is why some of the old documents are either not reflected today or contain incomplete data — for example, certificates without a photo.

Why is it important to update old driver's documents?

Every day, the Ministry of Internal Affairs service centers receive requests to update documents that do not appear in electronic accounts. And although not all holders of old licenses and technical passports need to exchange them — many have already received new documents — the Ministry of Internal Affairs recommends that anyone who finds that their documents are missing from the registers update their data.

Modern driver's documents have important advantages:

1. Display in electronic services. Updated licenses and technical passports automatically appear in the Diya app and the Driver's Cabinet. This greatly simplifies everyday situations: for example, if you forget your document at home, you can present a digital version that is legally valid.

2. Faster service. Up-to-date data allows you to quickly obtain other government services related to your car: registration, replacement of license plates, selection of categories, and insurance.

3. Reduced risk of errors and fraud. The new documents have a higher level of protection and contain the full scope of data in the registers. This minimizes the risk of forgery and misunderstandings during inspections.

How to update the information in your driver's documents?

To update the information in the registers, you need to contact the MIA service center and exchange your old document for a modern one. You must have the following with you:

● passport or ID card together with a statement of residence;

● taxpayer registration number (RNO KPP);

● the document that needs to be updated: driver's license or vehicle registration certificate.

During the appointment, the administrator enters the complete data into the electronic register and issues a new document. It is issued on the day of application, and within a few minutes after receiving the certificate, it is displayed in the Dія app and the driver's online account.

How much does it cost to exchange documents?

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs:

● driver's license exchange — about UAH 608;

● vehicle re-registration — approximately UAH 1,306 (with the issuance of new license plates).

An additional bank commission may be charged.

Registration is done by appointment: online through the E-registration service, or through a terminal at the service center.

Who does not need to update?

If the driver already has a new-style license issued after 2013 or a technical passport issued after 2019, the data should be displayed in the system automatically. In such cases, no additional updating is required.

Additional tip: if a driver uses a car frequently, it is worth taking care of the protection of the vehicle itself. In such cases, Car insurance "Basiс Kasko" is increasingly being taken out, which covers the most common risks — damage as a result of an accident, losses from natural disasters, or the consequences of military action. It is convenient to take out such insurance online on the Visit Ukraine platform, where the procedure takes a few minutes and requires a minimum of documents.

We remind you! In order to successfully complete the registration of a vehicle, the representative must have a duly executed power of attorney and confirmed authority. Read about what documents are required from individuals and legal entities and what is needed for quick car registration.

Frequantly
asked questions
Why is my driver's license not displayed in Diia?
Old-style licenses may not be displayed in Diia because their data was never entered into modern electronic registries. Documents issued before 2013 were stored only in paper archives, so the system cannot retrieve the information automatically. For the document to appear in Diia, you need to exchange it for a new one at the Ministry of Internal Affairs service center.
How can I check if my driver data is in the electronic registry before going to the Ministry of Internal Affairs?
Do I need to undergo a medical examination or retake exams to update my data in the registry?
