Ukraine continues to actively digitise public services, and the next step is the ability to dissolve a marriage with just a few clicks. As early as 2026, users of ‘Dii’ will be able to file for divorce online without visiting the registry office and dealing with paperwork. The innovation is intended for couples who do not have minor children. This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

How will divorce through Dii work?

According to Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, the new service will save time and nerves: you will no longer have to stand in queues or look for available dates to submit an application. The process will be fully automated — after submitting a request, the system will check the data in state registers and automatically register the divorce in a month. During this period, the spouses will be able to change their minds and withdraw their application.

The electronic divorce certificate will be stored in the app, and if necessary, it will be possible to order an extract or a duplicate copy through the Diya portal. Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov added that when the feature is launched, developers will introduce gamification elements — users will be offered the opportunity to ‘reconsider their decision’ and will be given the opportunity to calmly make a final decision.

The digitisation of the divorce process is a continuation of the large-scale transformation of public services in Ukraine, where online registration of marriage, birth, change of residence and dozens of other operations are already available.

The Marriage Online service is already operational in Diia

The Marriage Online service is available to adult citizens of Ukraine (men and women) who have a taxpayer registration number and a Ukrainian passport or a Ukrainian passport for travelling abroad, issued by the Unified State Demographic Register, are not married at the time of application, and information about the dissolution of their previous marriage is available in the State Register of Civil Status Acts.

Reminder! The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to launch a pilot project on digital employment through the Diya portal. Find out how the employment process will work and what jobs will be available.
