Heavy snowfall caused serious disruptions at Poland's third-largest airport, Gdańsk Airport. Some flights were canceled, while others were delayed or redirected to alternative airports. The bad weather created additional difficulties for passengers and forced airlines to quickly adjust their routes. RMF24 reports on the situation.

Level II danger and difficult weather conditions in the Pomeranian Province

According to weather forecasters, a Level II meteorological danger was declared for the Pomeranian Province on Sunday, January 11. Gdańsk experienced heavy snowfall for an extended period of time, which significantly complicated the takeoff and landing of aircraft.

Despite the difficult conditions, the airport continued to operate and did not completely suspend its operations. At the same time, the weather situation forced the crews of some flights to decide to land in other cities.

Cancelled and redirected flights: what is known

Problems with air traffic began on Saturday, but it was on Sunday that the effects of the bad weather became more noticeable for passengers. A total of 14 flights were cancelled or redirected, leading to delays and changes in travel plans.

Planes bound for Stockholm, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and Warsaw were unable to depart from Gdańsk Airport. Some flights were redirected to other airports where weather conditions allowed for safe landing.

Airport management notes that services are operating in an enhanced mode. Airport spokeswoman Agnieszka Michajlow said that teams are working intensively to clear snow from runways and aprons.

According to her, at some point the precipitation stopped and weather conditions temporarily improved. However, the forecast remains unfavorable, so further disruptions to the schedule and additional delays cannot be ruled out.

Recommendations for passengers

The airport administration urges travelers to:

● regularly check the status of their flights;

● stay in touch with airlines;

● be prepared for possible changes in departure times or routes.

During periods of unstable weather, passengers are also advised to plan alternative travel options in advance.
