Extension of tolerance visas in the Czech Republic: online registration starts on January 8, 2026
The Czech Republic has officially confirmed the dates for the extension of tolerance visas and temporary protection in 2026. Find out when online registration starts, how to book a visit, and what you need to extend your status
For Ukrainians who are in the Czech Republic on a tolerance visa or temporary protection status, official and long-awaited information has been released regarding the extension of their legal stay in 2026. The Czech authorities have confirmed the dates and procedure for online registration, without which it will not be possible to extend their status.
The information has been published on the Information Portal for Foreigners, which is administered by the Czech Ministry of the Interior.
When does registration for the extension of temporary protection start?
Online registration for the extension of temporary protection or a tolerance visa will start on January 8, 2026, after 4:00 p.m. Applications can be submitted via the official Information Portal for Foreigners in the Czech Republic.
Registration will be open until March 15, 2026, so there is formally enough time. At the same time, the authorities emphasize that it is not worth delaying, as available dates for personal visits may quickly run out.
Why is online registration necessary?
Online registration is a mandatory step in extending your status. During this process, foreigners:
● confirm their intention to extend temporary protection;
● book a date and time for a personal visit to the Czech Ministry of the Interior;
● prepare to receive a new visa sticker, which is affixed to their passport or other document.
Without a prior online reservation, the Ministry of the Interior will not accept you.

Step by step: what you need to do to extend your status
The procedure is as follows:
1. On January 8, 2026 (after 4:00 p.m.), go to the Information Portal for Foreigners.
2. Log in to your account — accounts from previous years remain active, so there is no need to create a new profile.
3. Select the date and time of your appointment at one of the branches of the Czech Ministry of the Interior.
4. Come in person on the booked date and time to have the new visa sticker affixed.
The sticker in the document confirms the extension of your status for a new period.
Where to go if you have problems with registration
A special information line is available to help with access to the portal and questions about temporary protection:
● Phone: +420 974 801 802
● Working hours: Mon–Thu: 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., Fri: 8:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
Operators provide advice on the registration process and technical difficulties.
Although the procedure seems straightforward, in practice, many people have questions — for example, about documents, changing data, combining statuses, or plans to leave and return. In such cases, it is worth consulting in advance with visa lawyers who specialize in assisting Ukrainians abroad. You can get such advice through Visit Ukraine — this will help you avoid mistakes and the risk of losing your status.
We remind you! European countries are gradually revising their approach to supporting Ukrainians, changing the rules of social assistance and conditions of stay. What was considered standard state support a few years ago is now increasingly being restricted or transformed.
