Prices for used cars in Ukraine have changed over the year: which cars have become more expensive and which have become cheaper

The used car market in Ukraine has changed more dramatically over the past year than many expected: some segments are rapidly losing value, while others, on the contrary, are steadily increasing in price. This mixed dynamic reflects not only buyer preferences, but also the impact of taxes, demand and supply structure. Find out which cars have risen in price, which have fallen in price, and what this means for future buyers

The Ukrainian used car market has undergone a noticeable transformation over the past year. Experts analysed price dynamics in popular segments and noted that the market has split into two opposite directions. Some categories of cars are steadily becoming more expensive, while others are steadily becoming cheaper, forming new trends for buyers with different budgets. This was reported by the Institute for Automotive Market Research.

The market has become polarised: economical technologies are becoming more expensive, while classic cars are losing value

According to analysts, polarisation has become clearly evident in the market. Hybrids and electric cars, as more technological and economical vehicles, are showing steady growth in value.

At the same time, classic segments, especially diesel and LPG cars, continue to fall in price and are becoming the most affordable option for buyers.

Car market expert Ostap Novitsky notes that petrol cars remain in consistently high demand, while diesel and gas-powered models are becoming cheaper due to declining popularity and rising operating costs.

Diesel and LPG cars have become significantly cheaper

The most significant price reductions of the year occurred in the diesel and gas-powered car segments.

• Diesel cars: the median price fell from $7,900 to $7,000.

• Cars with LPG systems: the price fell even more sharply, from $3,700 to $3,000.

Cars with gas cylinder equipment have actually become the lowest price segment on the market — and an attractive option for those looking for the most economical and affordable transport.

Petrol cars remain stable

Petrol cars remain the most stable and predictable segment of the market. The year started at $6,700, with a short-term dip to $6,000 in February, but by November 2025, prices had returned to a stable $6,650.

Buyers continue to choose petrol models because of their ease of maintenance and predictable costs, which supports their value.

Hybrids: growth due to limited supply

Hybrid cars showed noticeable price jumps — from $16,500 at the beginning of the year to $20,000 in the autumn, then a decline to $19,100 by the end of the year. Experts emphasise that this growth does not reflect the real increase in the cost of hybrids. The reason is the small market volume (about 2%): any batch of newer models significantly affects price statistics. After they are sold, the market returns to older car offers, and the medians are adjusted.

Electric cars are becoming more expensive ahead of the return of VAT

Despite the growth in the number of offers, electric cars rose in price from $15,800 in the spring to $17,000 by November. The main factor is the approach of 2026 and the return of VAT on electric car imports. Owners and dealers are factoring future costs into the current price, which is causing a gradual increase in cost even before the tax rules change.
