How to transfer money correctly when buying a car? Explanation from the Ministry of Internal Affairs

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has explained how to correctly calculate the cost when buying or selling a car. The transfer of money between the seller and the buyer takes place only by mutual agreement, without the involvement of service center employees. Settlements between the seller and buyer of a car are exclusively their agreement. MIA service centers do not participate in the transfer of funds and are not responsible for financial transactions between the parties. This was reiterated by the Main Service Center of the MIA.

The service center is not responsible for the transfer of funds

As noted by the agency, when contacting the service center to re-register a car or conclude a purchase and sale agreement, citizens often ask if it is possible to transfer money to the seller simply at the administrator's desk, where the documents are being processed.

"The contract for the sale of a vehicle is concluded between two parties — the seller and the buyer. The law does not stipulate that the transfer of funds must take place on the premises of the MIA service center or with the participation of an administrator," explained the MIA Service Center.

Therefore, the MIA service center does not act as an intermediary and is not responsible for settlements between the parties. Its function is only to process documents and register the vehicle.

How does the registration and transfer of funds take place?

At the service center, the parties conclude a purchase and sale agreement, re-register the car, and make changes to the documents. Payment can be made at any other time and in any place, as agreed between the seller and the buyer.

To avoid misunderstandings, the Ministry of Internal Affairs advises to agree in advance on the method of payment — cash or non-cash, determine the time and place of transfer of funds, and record this in the contract.

Documents confirming payment

Although payment documents are not mandatory for vehicle registration, they should be kept as proof of payment. This may be useful in case of disputes.
