According to Politico, Jolie crossed the border on foot without informing the Ukrainian government, which caused surprise and concern among officials. The actress headed to the frontline city of Kherson, which is under daily shelling. According to eyewitnesses, she visited local hospitals, children's wards and a maternity hospital, where she spoke with doctors and children.

The main incident that turned the humanitarian trip into an information explosion occurred in the Mykolaiv region. The actress's motorcade was stopped by representatives of the territorial recruitment centre. One of her bodyguards, as it turned out, was a Ukrainian citizen and was in the reserves. The man was invited to the local recruitment centre to have his documents checked, as he did not have a valid military medical commission certificate. According to sources from Suspilne in the Ground Forces, one of the motorcade drivers ended up at the recruitment centre. The man was asked to drive to the South Ukrainian Territorial Recruitment Centre and SP.

Sources in the Ground Forces stated that some of the information was distorted and that there was no conflict between the actress and representatives of the Territorial Recruitment Centre.

Moreover, according to media reports, the man detained by the TCC had no connection to the Hollywood star's security detail.

Later, a video appeared on Telegram channels from the TCC premises where the man was taken. Jolie herself allegedly arrived there and was caught on CCTV. There are claims online that the actress came to sort out the situation. However, according to information available to Suspilne, there was no conflict between Angelina Jolie and representatives of the TCC. She visited the assembly centre building to use the toilet.
