Putin announced the encirclement of Pokrovsk and Kupyansk: what the military says and what the situation is there
Russian propaganda is once again trying to pass off wishful thinking as reality – putin has declared that Ukrainian cities are ‘surrounded’, but the facts and official data confirm the opposite. Find out what is really happening in eastern Ukraine and why the Kremlin's statements have nothing to do with reality
Russian dictator vladimir putin said that russian occupiers ‘have surrounded the Ukrainian cities of Kupiansk (Kharkiv region) and Pokrovsk (Donetsk region)’. Allegedly, up to 5,000 Ukrainian soldiers are trapped in the encirclement. We have collected comments from the military and Ukrainian media about the situation in these cities.
Putin's words are complete lies
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the russian dictator's fantasies. He called the reports of encirclement lies aimed at the United States. According to him, the Kremlin is trying to create the impression in the White House that Russia is supposedly winning.
‘This is a complete lie. And not the first one,’ said the president, stressing that the purpose of such reports is to cause panic.
According to Zelensky, he has the latest information from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In particular, enemy activity near Kupiansk and Pokrovsk this week was one and a half to two times lower than in previous periods. The president stressed that Ukrainian troops are in control of the situation.

The situation in Kupiansk, Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad
Pokrovsk
According to the 7th Rapid Response Corps of the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russians have deployed about 11,000 occupiers to surround the Pokrovsk agglomeration.
‘To implement the plan to surround the Pokrovsk agglomeration, the enemy deployed about 11,000 troops. Enemy groups that managed to infiltrate the city aim to advance northwest and north of Pokrovsk.’
According to the military, the enemy has amassed about 27,000 personnel, about 100 tanks, up to 260 armoured combat vehicles and up to 160 guns and mortars in the area of responsibility of the 7th Corps.
‘The defenders of the Pokrovsk agglomeration continue their defensive operation,’ the statement said.
Myrnohrad
As for the situation in the town of Myrnohrad, which is adjacent to Pokrovsk, the ‘East’ military group noted that there are no Russian troops in this settlement.
The military also noted that the situation in Mirnohrad and its surroundings is completely controlled by the Defence Forces.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian volunteer Serhiy Sternenko claims that the statement by the press service of the ‘East’ group is ‘a lie.’ According to him, ‘the Russians are in Mirnohrad.’
Kupyansk
The situation in Kupyansk is stable, and the Russian Federation's claims that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are surrounded are not true, according to Interior Minister Klymenko.
According to the Deep State map, the Russians hold the northern and western parts of the city and have also entered the centre.
