When 17-year-old boys in Ukraine need to register for military service: new deadlines
The Ukrainian government has simplified the military registration system by introducing new rules for different age groups of men. Registration will now be more automated, and some procedures will be eliminated. Find out who will be affected by the changes and how the new system will work
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted Resolution No. 1203, which introduces important changes to the procedure for military registration. The innovations apply to both young men and men of conscription age and have already come into effect.
Registration for 17-year-olds
According to the government's decision, all young men who turn 17 are required to register for conscription. This must be done between 1 January and 31 July. This rule is aimed at systematising the registration of future conscripts and simplifying the control procedure.
Automatic registration for men aged 25–60
The main innovation is that men aged 25 to 60 who have not yet been registered will now be automatically entered into the state register. This will be based on data from other state systems, such as the tax or migration services.
Importantly, registration for this category will take place without a medical examination or referral to a military medical commission. This will simplify the procedure, but at the same time strengthen control over compliance with the requirements.
Who is not subject to registration
There are exceptions. The following are not subject to registration:
▪️ persons currently serving a sentence;
▪️ citizens subject to compulsory medical measures.
Automatic deregistration
Another important innovation concerns those Ukrainians who have reached the maximum age for remaining in the reserve. Now they will be automatically deregistered, without the need to contact the military registration and enlistment offices.
