A vacation like in the Maldives, but for less money: 4 resorts in Europe with turquoise seas and white beaches
The Maldives is a dream destination for many, but vacations there are expensive. Find out which resorts in Europe offer turquoise seas, white beaches, and comfort at much more affordable prices
The Maldives have long been a symbol of luxury vacations. Crystal clear water, tropical nature, and a carefree atmosphere—this is what attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists every year. However, such paradise on earth comes at a price: according to Travel Republic, a week-long trip to the Maldives costs more than $2,270 per person, and accommodation in a five-star hotel on an all-inclusive basis during peak season can cost more than $8,500.
However, Europe offers many alternatives where you can relax just as well, but at a much more affordable price. The Daily Mail has compiled a selection of resorts that resemble the Maldives but are closer and suitable for different budgets.
Budget resorts in Europe similar to the Maldives
Corfu — turquoise waters and Greek charm
The Greek island of Corfu is often called “emerald.” It has golden beaches, picturesque landscapes, and traditional Greek villages. In the off-season, a week's vacation will cost about $670 per person.
Group travel manager Clarissa Cappelletti emphasizes: “Corfu combines the beauty of turquoise waters and lush greenery with the charm of a Greek island. Its cultural richness and picturesque villages make the island a universal place for relaxation and exploration.”
Albania — “The Maldives of Europe”
Albania has become a tourist discovery in recent years. Its Adriatic and Ionian coastlines are known for their white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. Combined with affordable prices, the country is often referred to as “the Maldives of Europe.”
The cost of lunch in an inexpensive restaurant here is about $11, and a cup of cappuccino is only $2. This makes Albania an ideal option for those looking for a budget vacation with maximum comfort.

Crete — pink beaches and unique nature
The largest Greek island, Crete, is known for its rich history and natural beauty. Tourists often compare Elafonisi Beach to the Maldives because of its crystal clear water and unusual pink sand. Its color is created by foraminifera — microscopic sea creatures with reddish shells.
You can get here via Chania Airport, and the road to the beach takes about an hour and a half. A week's vacation in Crete will cost about $950 per person, depending on the season.
Malta — the pearl of the Mediterranean
Malta attracts millions of tourists every year thanks to its combination of history, culture, and beautiful beaches. Here you can find both lively resort towns and quiet bays with turquoise water.
“Malta is a true pearl of the Mediterranean, offering crystal clear waters, historical charm, and picturesque coastlines at a much more affordable price than the Maldives,” says Clarissa Cappelletti.
The cost of a week-long trip starts at $950 per person, making it a good alternative for those who dream of a premium vacation without excessive expenses.
Planning your trip: what to consider
Although a vacation in Europe can be significantly cheaper than the Maldives, it is important to remember the costs of flights, transfers, and safety. Travel insurance is an essential part of modern travel. It covers the costs of medical care, unforeseen circumstances, or even flight cancellations.
By the way, Ukrainians can conveniently take out insurance online on the Visit Ukraine website. Policies ranging from 3 days to a year with different levels of coverage are available here. This allows you to feel confident when traveling and focus solely on your vacation.
