The post-war reconstruction of Ukraine is estimated to cost a record amount. According to World Bank data presented in December 2024, more than $524 billion will be needed over the next decade to revive the economy, infrastructure and social sphere. For comparison, this is almost three times more than the country's current gross domestic product.

Reconstruction has already begun

Danylo Getmantsev, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, emphasised that recovery is not a hypothetical task for the future, but a process that has already begun. Ukraine is actively forming a legislative framework to attract investment, creating mechanisms for interaction with international partners and launching projects to restore key industries.

According to experts, the priority areas will be energy, transport, housing construction and support for small and medium-sized businesses. Particular attention is being paid to the modernisation of industry and the introduction of modern technologies, which will not only restore pre-war levels but also lay the foundation for sustainable growth.

International donors, financial institutions and Ukraine's allies are considering long-term support programmes, as well as possible sources of reparations from frozen Russian assets. At the same time, mechanisms for controlling the use of funds are also being strengthened within the country so that every hryvnia invested contributes to real recovery.

Thus, Ukraine faces a tremendous challenge, but also an opportunity to build a modern, sustainable economy. The amount of funds required shows the scale of the destruction, but also underscores the country's readiness for reform and transformation in cooperation with the international community.

Reminder! Critically important enterprises in frontline regions can now register all their employees for deferment. This will allow companies responsible for the country's vital functions and security to continue operating and protect their employees from mobilisation. Find out how to qualify for deferment and submit an application.
