Temporary changes to train services to Hungary: how Kyiv-Budapest and Chop-Vienna trains will run in August and September 2025
From August 25 to September 20, 2025, the schedule and routes of trains to Budapest will change. Find out which stations will be the final stops, which stops to pay attention to, and how to conveniently plan your trip despite the repairs
From August 25 to September 20, 2025, major renovation work will be carried out at Budapest-Keleti station. In connection with this, Hungarian Railways is temporarily changing the logistics for a number of international routes running from Ukraine to the Hungarian capital and beyond. Ukrzaliznytsia has already warned about the changes: passengers should carefully check their departure and arrival stations to avoid confusion during their journey.
How will train No. 9/10 Kyiv — Budapest — Kyiv run?
During the repairs, the final stop for train No. 9/10 Kyiv-Budapest-Kyiv will change. Instead of the usual Budapest-Keleti station, the train will arrive and depart from Budapest-Nyugati station.
Nyugati Station (Budapest-Nyugati) is one of the central stations in Budapest, well connected to public transport. It is served by the M3 metro line, which allows you to quickly reach different parts of the city or transfer to other modes of transport.

How will the route of train No. 143/146 Chop — Vienna and direct carriages Kyiv — Vienna change?
Another change concerns train No. 143/146 Chop — Vienna — Chop and direct carriages Kyiv — Vienna — Kyiv. During the specified period, the stop at Budapest-Kelenföld station will be canceled.
Instead, the train will only stop at Budapest-Kelenföld station, which is also a major transport hub. Kelenföld is easily accessible from the city center by metro line M4, trams, and city buses.

Is it easy to get to the city from Nyugati and Kelenföld?
Yes. Both stations – Budapest-Nyugati and Budapest-Kelenföld – are integrated into the Budapest public transport system.
● Nyugati is located in the business center and has access to the M3 metro, numerous trams, and buses.
● Kelenföld is in the southwest, close to the M4 metro, tram routes, and connections to other stations.
This means that even if the final destinations change, passengers can easily reach the desired area of the capital.
How can you plan your route conveniently, taking into account the changes?
Passengers traveling to Budapest or in the opposite direction are advised to check the current information on arrival and departure stations in advance. Tickets for international destinations are best purchased through official platforms to avoid misunderstandings.
Also, if you are looking for more convenient travel options, alternative routes, or bus or plane connections, use the Visit Ukraine booking system. Tip: When planning a trip to Ukraine, don't forget to take out insurance, as foreign insurance often automatically expires after crossing the Ukrainian border. We recommend purchasing insurance that covers war risks, which will cover not only standard medical care/treatment/diagnostics, etc., but also accidents and injuries caused by passive or direct military risks. You can purchase such insurance online on the Visit Ukraine website.
We remind you! Ukrzaliznytsia has limited the list of trains where mandatory verification through Diya.Signature is required. Read which destinations are affected, how to pass the check, and what to do without the app in our previous article.
