Cash limit for entering Ukraine: what you need to know
If you're wondering how much money you can bring to Ukraine, the answer depends on whether you’re ready to declare it.
- Up to €10,000 (or equivalent in other currencies) per person can be brought into Ukraine without declaration.
Importantly! The amount includes all cash you carry — in euros, US dollars, British pounds, Canadian dollars, hryvnias, or any other convertible currency.
- If you carry more than €10,000, you must submit a written declaration and provide documents proving the origin of the funds.
Please note that the conversion of cash currency amounts and the value of bank metals into euros is carried out at the official hryvnia to euro exchange rate established by the National Bank of Ukraine, or at the cross-rate determined in accordance with the official hryvnia to relevant foreign currencies and bank metals established by the National Bank, ON THE DAY OF CROSSING the customs border of Ukraine.
What currencies are allowed?
You can bring money into Ukraine in foreign currencies (USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, etc.) or Ukrainian hryvnia. Just make sure the banknotes are undamaged and recognizable.
When do I need to declare cash?
According to cash declaration for foreigners in Ukraine, any amount exceeding €10,000 per adult traveler must be officially declared upon entry or exit.
A verbal declaration is not sufficient – it must be written.
Declaration applies per adult traveler; children’s cash is counted separately.
What does the border guard check?
When entering Ukraine, the customs and border services may:
- Ask the total amount of money you’re carrying.
- Request a declaration if the amount exceeds the allowed limit.
- Check your documents and ask for the source of funds.
Important advice for travelers: before entering Ukraine, make sure you have valid insurance for foreigners, which is a mandatory condition for entering Ukraine. In conditions of martial law, we recommend choosing a policy that includes coverage for military risks.
