The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has simplified the process of obtaining passports for men abroad. This applies to men of mobilisation age, i.e. between 18 and 60 years old. Here is what has changed for these individuals.

Obtaining a passport abroad: new rules

Men no longer need to provide their military registration documents in person to obtain a passport abroad, as all checks are carried out automatically:

1. Foreign branches of the state-owned enterprise ‘Document’ will independently check the military registration status in the electronic register.

2. If there is no data on a man, he is automatically registered for military service.

3. A military registration document is created in electronic form.

4. It is no longer necessary to undergo a medical examination.

5. All checks are carried out without any additional action on the part of the applicant.

These changes are important because thousands of Ukrainians abroad will be able to obtain or renew their passports without any problems. This simplifies legal residence, employment, education and access to public services outside Ukraine.

‘The changes will allow people to maintain ties with the state and enjoy their rights as citizens, wherever they are,’ the Cabinet of Ministers emphasised.
