Ukraine celebrates Tank Troops Day on September 14. This holiday is undoubtedly significant for the country, and it symbolizes not only the achievements being celebrated, but also the importance of Ukrainian tankers in the history of modern Ukraine. 

History of the holiday

This year, Ukraine celebrates this holiday for the first time, which was established by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to replace Tankers' Day (a Soviet holiday).

According to Zelenskyy's decree, the decision to celebrate Tank Troops Day on September 14 was made to honor "the courage and heroism of tank soldiers in the fight for freedom, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as to establish new military traditions."

Despite the fact that this holiday is being celebrated for the first time, its history goes back to 1991, when Ukraine became independent. During the period of Ukraine's independence and at the beginning of its independent path, Ukrainian tankers played an important role in various events and during the war against russia.

Ukraine's fight for freedom brought many challenges, and tankers were at the forefront of this struggle. With their help, successful operations and counter-offensives were carried out, and the safety of civilians in various regions of the country was ensured. Tank troops continue to fight terrorists and maintain the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The uniqueness of Ukraine's tank troops

As you know, the Ukrainian army is considered one of the largest in the post-Soviet space. Moreover, Ukraine has many tanks in service that are capable of repelling the enemy.

However, despite the number of tanks, the military personnel who operate these tanks have always been considered an important factor in the effectiveness of this type of troops. Today, Ukraine can proudly say that its tank forces can be considered one of the best in the world, as these are the people who continue to fight the russian horde on the battlefield. 

It is important that Ukraine's outnumbered tankers are able to destroy an army that considers itself the "second best in the world" with agility and intelligence.

Also, one of the most notable uniquenesses of the Ukrainian tank forces is the variety of equipment that the Ukrainian army received from its Western allies.

Ukrainian tankers were able to master modern Western equipment in the shortest possible time, having transferred to it from old Soviet tanks. Thus, Ukraine's current arsenal includes the following tanks:

- Т-72;

- Т-80;

- modern T-84 "Oplot" (Ukrainian production);

- German Leopard-1 and Leopard-2;

- British Challenger 2;

- French AMX-10 RC;

In addition, American Abrams tanks, which are considered to be among the best in the world, are due to arrive in Ukraine soon.

In the near future, the Ukrainian tank forces will be equipped with a "tank mix" that no other country in the world has.
