Ironically, the meeting between the russian dictator and the North Korean leader was held under the slogan "together in the fight against imperialism." The Vostochny cosmodrome in the Amur region was chosen for the talks, and this was explained by Kim Jong-un's interest in missile programs. After a tour of the cosmodrome, negotiations began with the participation of delegations, and then the dictators talked face to face.

What did putin and Kim Jong-un talk about?

In general, the talks lasted about two hours, and they did not directly address the war in Ukraine. However, Kim Jong-un unequivocally supported the russian invasion and said that "russia has risen to defend its sovereignty and security," and then noted that Pyongyang has always supported and will support "all decisions of president putin."

"I hope that we will always be together in the fight against imperialism and [for] building a sovereign state," he said.

During the joint lunch, the North Korean leader again raised the topic of imperialism, supporting the russian dictator in his invasion of Ukraine:

"I am deeply convinced that the heroic russian army and people will brilliantly inherit the tradition of victory, confidently demonstrate priceless dignity and honor on the fronts of the armed forces and in building a strong state."

In addition, Kim Jong-un wished russia to win "a great victory in the sacred struggle to punish the great evil that claims hegemony and has an expansionist illusion."

However, no specifics about the supply of ammunition or other weapons were mentioned during the meeting. At the same time, according to the commentary of the head of the GUR Kirill Budanov to NV, the DPRK has been supplying russia with shells (122 mm and 152 mm) and rockets for hailstones for a month and a half.

Can the DPRK's weapons change the situation at the front in Ukraine?

According to Bloomberg, North Korean weapons could help russia in the fighting in Ukraine, but they are not modern enough to change the course of the war.

In addition, according to American analysts, putin is looking for opportunities to stall and play for time. Most experts are convinced that the DPRK's weapons will help fill gaps in ammunition and other weapons systems, but it will not bring a strategic shift.

In addition, North Korea's production capabilities are limited, both in terms of resources and technology, and therefore large volumes of supplies are out of the question.

Does russia benefit from cooperation with the DPRK?

Despite the fact that russia is actively looking for partners who will provide it with weapons and ammunition, analysts do not expect success from cooperation with the DPRK. This is because russia plans to "pay off" North Korea with technology, and the DPRK, in turn, can simply resell it to third countries for money. Therefore, a situation may arise in which russia has given Kim Jong-un expensive technologies for which the country is unable to pay, and in return has received nothing but a small amount of ammunition that will not affect the unfolding of events at the front.
