December 12 is celebrated annually in Ukraine as Land Forces Day, a date established by presidential decree on October 18, 1997. This holiday is dedicated to the servicemen of the most numerous and one of the most important branches of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

During a period of full-scale war, this day has taken on special significance. It is the soldiers of the Land Forces who are in the most difficult conditions: they fight in close proximity to the enemy, conduct assault operations, defend key areas, hold the line, and restrain the advances of russian troops.

Their work involves daily stress, maximum concentration, and constant risk to their lives. And it is their resilience that allows Ukraine to continue fighting and maintain control over its territories.

The history of the holiday and the significance of the Army

The holiday was established in 1997 to honor the role of Army servicemen in ensuring the country's defense capability. Since its creation, the Land Forces have become the backbone of the Ukrainian army and have undergone a significant transformation — from a Soviet legacy to a modern, mobile, professional force.

Each of the Land Forces units performs critical tasks on the front lines, and together they form the basis of the state's combat power.

Since 2022, they have been tasked with the most difficult mission — to deter, destroy, and repel the enemy. It is the soldiers of the Land Forces who:

● conduct assault and counteroffensive operations;

● conduct reconnaissance and hold the front line in the hottest spots;

● defend cities and villages under constant shelling;

● fight for every meter of Ukrainian land.

Today's war has become a test of resilience, professionalism, and human strength. And the soldiers of the Ground Forces are passing this test with honor.
