A historic moment! Ukraine has advanced to the World Cup play-offs

The Ukrainian national team played a decisive match in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Iceland, winning 2-0. Thus, Serhiy Rebrov's team will continue on its path to the 2026 World Cup.

Ukraine - Iceland

This match was decisive for both the Ukrainian team and the Icelanders. These teams were fighting for second place in the table, which would allow them to advance to the 2026 World Cup play-offs. Before the match, the teams had an equal number of points (7 each), but Iceland was ahead of Ukraine in terms of goals scored (+4 against -3). This meant that even a draw would not allow the Ukrainians to overtake the Vikings. Rebrov's team needed nothing less than a victory!

The match ended with a score of 2-0. Zubkov and Hutsulyak scored the goals.

Who will Ukraine face in the play-offs?

The participant groups have not yet been finalised, but it is certain that the national team's first opponent in the play-offs will be a team from the fourth group. So far, it looks like this:

▪️ North Macedonia

▪️ Northern Ireland

The draw is scheduled for 20 November at 14:00 Kyiv time.

The play-off matches will take place in June 2026 in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
