When to expect the first snow in Ukraine and where to best welcome it in 2025

In Ukraine, winter is gradually making its presence felt: warm days are passing, and the sky is increasingly preparing the first snowflakes. Forecasters have already named the approximate dates when the first precipitation is expected and told where a stable snow cover will appear. While Ukraine is enjoying mild autumn weather, the question of the first snow is becoming increasingly relevant. Weather forecasters warn that although there will be no heavy snowfall in the coming days, the first winter landscapes can be expected by the end of November.

What forecasters say

According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre, snow is unlikely to appear in the first ten days of November. The weather will remain comfortable and warm, with temperatures above zero. However, in the second half of the month, the first frosts and precipitation are possible, which in some places will turn into snow.

Natalia Ptukha, a representative of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre, noted in a comment for Channel 24 that it is in the second ten days of November that the air temperature usually drops to zero and below. If atmospheric fronts with precipitation pass through at the same time, wet snow or even temporary snow cover may be observed.

This is especially true for the Carpathians, where stable winter landscapes appear first. By mid- or late November, permanent snow cover is already possible in the mountains. For now, the temperature there remains above zero, and the early autumn precipitation has already melted.

According to preliminary forecasts, the first noticeable snow in Ukraine may appear after 25 November, when a sharp cold snap is expected. According to forecasters, such weather will last until the beginning of December.
