Ukrainians are actively buying used cars from abroad, maintaining stable demand even in 2025. Find out which models made it into the top 10 and what trends are shaping the market
The demand for used cars in Ukraine remains consistently high: in August alone, Ukrainians registered more than 22,700 passenger cars imported from abroad. This is only 1% more than in July, but the upward trend continues. This was reported by Ukravtoprom.
What cars from Europe do Ukrainians choose?
Gasoline cars are in the highest demand, accounting for 48% of all imported cars. Electric cars are the second most popular category (26%). Diesel cars account for 17%, hybrids for 6%, and only 3% of new owners drive cars with gas cylinder equipment (LPG).
The average age of imported cars in August was 8.4 years. This indicates that Ukrainians mostly prefer cars with an optimal balance of price, technical condition, and remaining resource.
Top 10 most popular models in August
The top ten includes both traditional gasoline models and electric cars, which only confirms the diversity of Ukrainian buyers' demands.
● Volkswagen Golf — 1,002 cars
● Tesla Model Y — 827 cars
● Volkswagen Tiguan — 703 cars
● Renault Megane — 687 cars
● Tesla Model 3 — 651 cars
● Skoda Octavia — 650 cars
● Audi Q5 — 640 cars
● Nissan Rogue — 633 cars
● Nissan Leaf — 562 cars
● Volkswagen Passat — 456 cars
The Volkswagen Golf traditionally topped the rating. This car has been in the lead for several years in a row thanks to its reliability, relatively affordable maintenance costs, and versatility. At the same time, two Tesla models (Model Y and Model 3) secured their place at the top, demonstrating Ukrainians' growing confidence in electric cars.

Overall market dynamics
Since the beginning of 2025, Ukrainians have purchased 158,500 imported used cars. This is only 0.3% less than in the same period in 2024. This market stability is explained by a combination of several factors: relatively affordable prices for European cars, a wide selection of models, and drivers' desire to upgrade their vehicles at an optimal budget.
It is worth noting that the trend toward electric cars is gradually gaining momentum. The growth of Tesla and Nissan Leaf's share in the overall ranking indicates a shift in priorities among Ukrainian motorists — from classic gasoline to more environmentally friendly and economical solutions.
Practical considerations: documents and insurance
Importing a car from abroad involves not only choosing a model, but also completing the necessary paperwork. When registering a car in Ukraine, owners must obtain motor vehicle liability insurance. Without it, you will not be able to drive on the roads, and in the event of an accident, you risk significant financial losses.
