On September 10, Ukraine introduced new border crossing rules for commercial transport drivers. From now on, licensed carriers only need to register in the eCherha system, and it is no longer necessary to submit an application in the 18-60 (Shlyakh) module. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine.

What has changed?

Previously, the departure procedure was more complicated: drivers subject to military service first had to submit an application to “Shlyakh” and then register a place in the electronic queue. “Shlyakh” was used to verify information about drivers when crossing the border.

Now the system has been simplified. Data will be verified directly through “eCherha,” which will become the single window for entering trip information. This should reduce bureaucracy and speed up the process of commercial transport departure.

Who can use “eCherha”?

Crossing the border for international transport will only be possible for drivers who:

- are registered in the carrier's electronic office in the Unified Information System Complex (EIS) of Ukrtransbezpeka;

- have a license to carry out commercial transport.

Border guards will receive confirmation of registration directly from the “eCherha” system, which will avoid duplication of data in several registers.

If you plan to travel abroad by car, don't forget to get international motor insurance
(Green Card). This is a mandatory document for crossing EU borders in your own car, without which you may be denied entry. You can get a Green Card online in a few minutes before your trip.

What happened before?

In February 2025, the government already stopped using “Shlyakh” for drivers transporting humanitarian cargo. At that time, it was established that they must have other legal grounds for traveling abroad.

Now “Shlyakh” is finally a thing of the past and is no longer used for either humanitarian or commercial transportation.

Reminder!
 The visa-free regime has greatly simplified travel for Ukrainians, but it has limitations, so some Ukrainians need to obtain a visa to travel to the EU. Depending on the purpose of the trip, there are different types of visas, each of which requires a specific set of documents. Which Ukrainians cannot enter Europe without a visa, what types of visas exist, and what documents are required to apply — we explain here.
