Poland has been one of the most popular countries for Ukrainian students to pursue higher education for many years. The reasons are clear: geographical proximity, cultural similarities, a wide choice of universities, and affordable tuition fees. Moreover, for those who speak Polish or have a Polish Card, many state universities offer the opportunity to study for free. For other students, tuition fees are more affordable than in most Western European countries, but still require careful financial planning.

Tuition fees at public universities in Poland

In 2025, the average tuition fee at public universities ranges from €2,000 to €6,000 per year. Programs in Polish remain the cheapest, while English-language or specialized programs (medicine, law, business) can be significantly more expensive.

For master's programs, prices usually range from €2,500 to €7,000 per year, and at private universities, they can reach €10,000-18,000 per year.

Students who have a Polish Card or take entrance exams in Polish still have the opportunity to study completely free of charge at most faculties.

Please note! According to the requirements of the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education, from August 1, 2025, all students from non-EU countries are required to confirm their level of proficiency in the language of instruction (Polish or English) at a level not lower than B2. How to confirm your language skills for admission to Poland can be found in our previous article.

Prices for private universities in Poland

Private educational institutions in Poland attract students with international programs and English-language instruction. But the price is higher: in the fields of business, IT, or medicine, tuition can cost 8-12 thousand euros per year. The most expensive programs are English-language programs in medicine and pharmacy, which can exceed €15,000 per year.

At the same time, private universities often offer more flexible study conditions, international exchanges, and modern campuses, which also attracts Ukrainian students.

Preparatory courses and additional expenses

For those who do not yet speak Polish or want to better prepare for their studies, there are one-year preparatory programs. They include intensive language courses and basic subjects and cost an average of €1,500-3,000 per year.

In addition, students will have to take into account additional costs:

insurance — about €100 per year,

visa fee — about €20,

● payment for the services of intermediary companies for admission can start from €600.

Student accommodation in Poland: dormitory or apartment?

The cost of housing in Poland varies depending on the city and type of accommodation:

● dormitory — €90-400 per month,

● room in a shared apartment — from €150-350,

● renting a separate apartment in large cities — from €350-600, and in Warsaw it can exceed €800.

On average, living expenses amount to about €400-600 per month, which, together with food and transportation, comes to €1,500-2,000 per semester.

Living expenses and food

Food in Poland remains relatively affordable. A student can spend between €150 and €300 per month on groceries. Additional expenses for cafes, coffee shops, or pizza several times a week can increase this amount by €50-100.

Transportation in cities such as Warsaw or Krakow costs about €14 per month with a student ticket. To this, you should add transportation costs between Ukraine and Poland to visit your family: a bus ticket from Kyiv to Warsaw costs about €25 one way.
