Ukrainians around the world are preparing to celebrate the 34th anniversary of Ukraine's independence, and Europe will be one of the main centres of celebration. Concerts, festivals, rallies and unity events will be held in Barcelona, Berlin, Warsaw, London, Amsterdam and other cities, bringing together Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine. Find out where the biggest events for Independence Day 2025 will take place
Ukraine's Independence Day on 24 August is not only a major public holiday, but also a symbol of strength, freedom and unity for Ukrainians around the world. In 2025, the Ukrainian diaspora in dozens of countries is preparing large-scale events: concerts, festivals, rallies and support actions. Europe will be one of the main centres of celebration, as millions of Ukrainians live here, maintaining ties with their homeland and promoting its culture.
Below is a list of key events that will take place in various European countries.
Spain
In Barcelona, the celebrations will begin on 23 August, Ukraine's National Flag Day. At 10:00 a.m., a large car and motorcycle parade with Ukrainian flags will start, followed by a rally and the unfurling of a 100-metre flag under the Triumphal Arch.
The next day, 24 August, will see the Great Ukrainian OPEN-AIR: live concerts by Ukrainian artists and DJs, a charity fair and fundraising for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Germany
Berlin will celebrate the holiday on 23 August with a festival featuring musical performances and a cultural programme. On 24 August, the centre of the celebrations will move to Hamburg, where a rally and a large concert will take place at Rathausmarkt, where Ukrainians and Europeans will be able to celebrate Independence Day together.
United Kingdom
A rich programme has been prepared in London and Cardiff. The Kvitka Ukrainy choir will perform Ukrainian and Welsh songs, and on 24 August, an international art event called Signs of Identity will begin, with artists from 20 cities around the world taking part. The event will take place at the National Museum of Decorative Arts and the Museum of the Ukrainian Diaspora.
Poland
On 24 August, a large concert featuring Dakh Daughters and the PianoBoy project will take place on Castle Square in Warsaw. The organisers emphasise that this is not only a celebration, but also a show of support for Ukrainian culture abroad.
In addition, on 23 August, the Polish capital will host the premiere of the film The Porcelain War. This is a joint work by American Brendan Bellomo and Kharkiv native Slava Leontiev about Ukrainian ceramic artists.
