Despite the dangers and constant challenges, Ukrainians continue to travel. The summer of 2025 confirms that domestic tourism in Ukraine is not just staying afloat, but is growing.

Short trips within the country have become a way for many to recharge their batteries — physically, emotionally, and psychologically.

Western Ukraine is the undisputed leader of the season

For the fourth year in a row, Ukrainians prefer the western regions — Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpattia, Bukovina, and Ternopil. This is reported by the State Agency for Tourism Development of Ukraine.

These regions combine relative safety, developed tourist infrastructure, and unique landscapes.

The Carpathians remain the main magnet for travelers. Verkhovyna, Yaremche, Slavske, and Bukovel offer active recreation, cycling routes, mountain hiking, and wellness programs. This summer, there is a special focus on spa services, relaxation programs, and gastronomic tours.

Zakarpattia surprises with new formats: the “Castle and Wine Route” combines history, wine tasting, and local cuisine. Berehove and Khust are becoming centers of cycling tourism with a developed network of eco-routes.

Lviv region is betting on the “Travel with Taste” program, where tourists discover craft cheese factories, bakeries, and wineries, immersing themselves in an atmosphere of authenticity.

Central Ukraine: routes of peace and authenticity

Cherkasy, Poltava, Zhytomyr, and Podillia regions are also trending this summer. Tourists are attracted by the combination of accessibility, tranquility, and picturesque nature. Cherkasy offers boat trips on the Dnipro River, historical tours “along the paths of Shevchenko,” and routes from the Cossack era.

Podillia's “small town routes” are the discovery of the season: ancient castles, wooden churches, and natural parks are ideal for those who appreciate depth and authenticity.

Kyiv and the surrounding region remain popular for short weekend getaways. Hiking and biking trails, festivals, ethnic events, food tours, and Ivan Kupala in Pirogovo combine nature, culture, and comfortable infrastructure.

Black Sea coast: the sea with restrictions

Despite the risks, 11 beaches have opened in Odesa, with several more on the way. All locations are equipped with new safety standards: fenced swimming areas, lifeguard stations, and warning systems. At the same time, the popular resorts of Zatoka and Karolina-Bugaz remain closed due to the threat of shelling. Odessa is focusing on city tours, festivals, and gastronomic routes.

What will Ukrainians choose in 2025?

The demand remains the same: short trips for a few days, historical and gastronomic tours, outdoor recreation, wellness, and eco-friendly formats. Festivals and trips with elements of local culture are at the top of the list.

Domestic tourism today is not just entertainment, but a way to support the economy, communities, and one's own mental and emotional balance. Despite the challenges of war, Ukrainians are finding opportunities to travel, discover new places, and experience life.
