Starting from February 1, Ireland will introduce new restrictions on payments for newly arrived refugees from Ukraine. This was reported by the Irish Independent.
We will tell you who exactly will be affected by the reduction in the amount of payments and what the reasons for this decision are.
Updated conditions for Ukrainians in Ireland: what is known
The Minister of Social Protection of Ireland, Heather Humphreys, noted that the reduction in payments will apply only to those periods when refugees are in public housing.
She emphasized that the period of stay in free public housing will be limited to 90 days, during which refugees will receive reduced payments of 38.80 euros per week, compared to the usual 220 euros.
Humphreys emphasized that the reduction in social benefits is only for the period when the state pays for refugees' accommodation. If Ukrainians rent housing on their own, they are entitled to higher social benefits.
The Minister informed the Social Protection Committee that special arrival centers for Ukrainians will only accept newly arrived refugees, and that new centers are planned to be built across the country to accommodate Ukrainians for free for 90 days.
Irish politicians note that these new measures will create a significant difference between refugees living in accommodation centers and those looking for accommodation on their own, and are an incentive to intensify the search for their own place of residence.
In addition to this, landlords who accept Ukrainian refugees will receive compensation from Ireland in the amount of 800 euros per month.

How long can Ukrainians stay in Ireland?
The most important thing is that refugees from Ukraine will not be forced to leave Ireland while the war in their homeland is ongoing. This was stated by Prime Minister Leo Varadkar.
He also emphasized that sending people back to Ukraine will be considered only after the invasion is over and security in their home country is ensured.
