At the beginning of July, the Portuguese capital will host the fourth Ukrainian Borsch Day, a traditional charity event organised by the Ukrainian community with the support of local authorities. Here are more details about the event.

Where and when?

The event will take place on 6 July at 4 p.m. in Bensaúde Park and will be accompanied by a rich cultural and gastronomic programme.

The main goal of the event is to raise funds to support the project ‘Children of Heroes — Warmed by the Sun and Love,’ which provides psychological and material assistance to the children of Ukrainian defenders. All proceeds from sales and the lottery will go towards this cause.

What will the programme be?

According to the organisers, guests can expect:

▪️ A generous serving of Ukrainian borscht and homemade varenyky;

▪️ A fair with folk crafts and original cuisine;

▪️ An exhibition of artwork and live Ukrainian music;

▪️ A charity lottery and surprises for young visitors;

▪️ And a friendly atmosphere of family warmth.

By the way, if you want to buy clothes and other items with patriotic Ukrainian symbols, you will find a large selection of products reflecting Ukrainian culture and traditions on the Visit Ukraine portal. You can order from anywhere in the world, and every purchase contributes to supporting Ukraine.

The tradition of celebrating Ukrainian Borsch Day originated in Portugal and took root thanks to the active Ukrainian diaspora — there are about 45,000 Ukrainians living in the country, most of whom settled in Lisbon.

Since 2022, borscht has been included in UNESCO's representative list of intangible cultural heritage, highlighting its importance to Ukrainian culture.
