On June 11, the Alberta Opportunity Stream immigration program in Canada resumes accepting applications in accordance with the new rules. This is stated on the official website alberta.ca.

It is noted that the updated approach is aimed at reducing application processing time and providing applicants with numerous opportunities to participate in the program, which offers a limited number of provincial nomination certificates.

Canadian Alberta Opportunity Stream 2024 program: what you need to know

• Deadline: applications will be accepted for 7 days until the end of 2024, one per month.

• Monthly number of applications: a certain number of applications will be accepted each month. Once this number is reached, no further applications will be accepted until the next date.

• Publication of information: Application deadlines, targets, scores, and processing times will be published on the AAIP website. This information is subject to change, so applicants and potential applicants are advised to check the website regularly for the latest information.

Number of nominations

For 2024, Alberta has received 9,750 nominations from the federal government, which is the maximum number of provincial nomination certificates that can be issued. Demand for immigration to Alberta far exceeds this number, forcing the Alberta Immigration Program (AAIP) to allocate its nominations based on economic priorities across all sectors.

New guidelines

In order to cope with the high demand, reduce processing time and maximize the use of the nominations provided for 2024, AAIP has adopted new guidelines for the following streams.

From now on, Alberta will accept applications for the following programs:

- Alberta Opportunity Stream

- Rural Renewal Stream

- Accelerated Tech Pathway

- Tourism and Hospitality Stream

A certain number of applications will be accepted each month, from which applications will be selected for processing by AAIP. This approach provides applicants with opportunities to apply and access the program throughout the year.

Application deadlines 

Applications will be accepted on a monthly basis starting on the following dates:

• June 11

• July 9

• August 13

• September 10

• October 8

• November 5

• December 10

Once the monthly number of applications is reached, no further applications will be accepted until the following date. All targets and processing times will be published on the AAIP website.
