In 2023, 338,000 people used the Kyiv metro as a shelter during night air raids. This was reported by representatives of the Kyiv metro.
The highest activity was recorded in May, when more than 92 thousand citizens sought refuge in underground stations. This was the result of 17 russian attacks on the city, most of which occurred at night.
Kyiv residents were reminded that during air raids, all underground stations have lobbies ready to receive people. It is also possible to use modular benches, folding chairs, mattresses and blankets. 4G internet connection is available in the subway, and there are water fountains.
If necessary, subway employees help citizens find sanitary facilities located outside the platform.
Remember that in times of war, it is important to follow clear rules and algorithms to ensure personal safety during an air raid. In the event of an air raid siren, it is recommended to act immediately and responsibly.
The basic rule is that upon hearing the siren, you should immediately go to the nearest shelter. Beforehand, you should familiarize yourself with the location of shelters in your area.

What to do during an air raid?
There are several important steps to take to ensure safety:
• Find shelter quickly: Everyone should immediately go to the nearest shelter. It is important to know in advance the location of shelters near your home or place of work.
• Use the "two walls" rule: If you are unable to run to a shelter, immediately move to a room without windows and use the "two walls" rule. Find a place with at least two walls separating you to minimize the risk of injury from debris or objects that may be thrown during an alarm.
• Turn on your media: Turn on the radio or television to listen to urgent news about a possible emergency. It is important to receive information within the first 5 minutes after the sirens start.
• Follow the recommendations: Listen to the message to the public and follow the recommendations. This may be important information for your safety.
• Inform your family and help others: If possible, inform your family, neighbors, and friends about what you have heard. If possible, provide them with help and support.
Following these steps will help ensure maximum safety during the air raid.
