Children who live and study abroad have the opportunity to study in Ukrainian schools. In general, three formats of education are available for them. The Ministry of Science and Education told how to transfer children there.

What formats of education are provided?

- individual or family form: the pupil/pupil studies full-time in the local school, and the parents are responsible for mastering the Ukrainian programme;

- in a distance format with Ukrainian studies component only: the pupil/pupil studies the programme at the local school, and in the evening or on Saturday she/he remotely studies Ukrainian language and literature, history of Ukraine;

- in a full-fledged distance format: the pupil/pupil studies in the local school and in parallel studies all subjects in a Ukrainian educational institution (the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine draws attention to the fact that in this case children receive a double load, and studying in a Ukrainian school often becomes a formality).

Where and how can education take place?

Pupils who are abroad will be taught the Ukrainian studies component at 148 educational institutions of Ukraine. The list of schools where such classes will be established can be found here.

Classes will be held in a distance format, so parents and students can choose an educational institution at their discretion. Teaching in special classes will take place in the evening on weekdays or on Saturdays, depending on the decision of the educational institution.

The list of subjects to be studied there is as follows

- Ukrainian language

- Ukrainian literature;

- ‘I explore the world’ (for pupils of 1st-4th grades);

- Ukrainian history (from 5th grade)

- geography (from 8th grade)

- basics of jurisprudence (from 9th grade);

- ‘Defence of Ukraine’ (from 10th grade).

Pupils will also be able to take additional hours for individual lessons and counselling.

How to transfer a child to such a class?

Parents who want to transfer their child to a ‘Ukrainian studies class’, first of all, they need to choose a school. Then they need to submit an application for transferring the child: it can be filled out online or a scanned copy can be sent to the address of the chosen educational institution.

This function is also available for children who are in the temporarily occupied territories.
