Every year on June 25, two important holidays are celebrated in Ukraine - the Day of the Customs Service and the Day of the Customs Officer. On this day, it is customary to congratulate all those who protect the customs interests of Ukraine and ensure the customs security of our country.

In the modern world, the role of customs is growing, because states are strengthening economic and trade ties with each other, the tourism sector is also developing more actively, business, social and sports spheres are working.

Today we talk about this holiday and the role of customs in Ukraine.

Day of the Customs Service of Ukraine 2023

The date of the Day of Customs Service was chosen not by chance, on this day in 1991 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law on Customs Affairs in Ukraine. The customs service is one of the symbols of the state, because it stands for the protection of the economic interests of every country.

Customs Day 2023

Customs officers are professionals who guarantee stable connections between different countries. Every day, customs officers ensure the customs security of Ukraine, create favorable conditions for the development of the economic activity of Ukraine, maintain a balance between customs control and simplification of trade rules, fight against smuggling and violations of customs rules. This work is very important, which is why June 25, 2020 was approved as a professional holiday - the Day of the Customs Officer of Ukraine.

How does the customs service work in wartime?

In the first 5 months of 2023, the turnover amounted to $41.9 billion, which is 4% more than in 2022. During January-May 2023, Ukraine imported goods in the amount of $25.4 billion, and exported goods in the amount of $16.5 billion.

The countries from which the most goods were imported to Ukraine: China - $3.9 billion, Poland - $2.7 billion, and Turkey - $2 billion. Ukraine exported the most to Poland - $2.3 billion, Romania - $1.6 billion and China - by $1.4 billion.

Ukrainian customs reforms within the framework of Ukraine's integration into the EU customs system

The European Union is primarily a customs union, so for Ukraine to join the EU, Ukrainian customs must undergo a number of reforms. Many of them were held during 2022.

First of all, Ukraine received the so-called "customs visa-free", i.e. introduced the computerized transit system (NCTS - New Computerized Transit System) and joined the Convention on General Transit. This is a very serious achievement. It is important that Ukraine did everything very quickly, in the shortest possible time.

NCTS is a system of exchanging all information about all stages of customs clearance of goods transit, which significantly reduces the expenditure of effort and time for the passage of goods across the borders of European countries and reduces corruption risks.

Customs officers ensure the security of the state border and check goods entering the country. During the war, the value of their work increased even more, because protecting the border is now more important than ever.

Congratulations to every employee of the customs service of Ukraine! We wish inspiration in work and a peaceful sky!
