Recent days have seen an increase in the number of discussions about Ukraine's counteroffensive and the possible outcome of this operation. Statements by Ukraine's intelligence chiefs and representatives of the President's Office suggest that the state is ready for an offensive and has already begun to take the first steps toward liberating the occupied territories. 

The beginning of the counteroffensive: what is known?

● According to the head of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, Ukraine has already accumulated the necessary minimum of weapons and trained soldiers to launch a full-scale counteroffensive.

● The latest report by the Deputy Defense Minister of Ukraine says that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have stopped the enemy's offensive potential at the front, including in the Bakhmut sector, and that russia has not been able to capture the city, as the southwestern part of Bakhmut remains under Ukrainian control.

● A U.S. senator said after a visit to Volodymyr Zelenskyy that in the coming days, the world would see an exceptional show of strength by the Ukrainian army.

● The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, posted a video on his own page where Ukrainian soldiers say a prayer, but it was not the content of the video that interested the public, but the caption under it: "It's time to take back what's ours."

● And according to the head of the Presidential Office, the Ukrainian counteroffensive has begun and has been going on for several days.

Obviously, a counteroffensive is not an event of one day or one week, but a whole range of preparatory and offensive measures, both at the operational and strategic levels. But what exactly will Ukrainians consider a victory? Let's figure it out together, based on the results of a survey conducted by the Razumkov Center.

Ukraine's borders and the demarcation line: where the counteroffensive should end

The majority of Ukrainian citizens will not consider it a victory to return to the contact line by February 24, 2022. Even if it is necessary to end the fighting and achieve peace. Thus:

● 66.8% of Ukrainian citizens surveyed strongly disagree with the return to the borders in 2022, and will consider the full de-occupation of Ukraine with the restoration of the 1991 borders a victory.

● Only 17.2% of Ukrainians agreed with the partial de-occupation.

● At the same time, 16% of respondents could not answer the question.

Are negotiations and reconciliation with russia possible: what do Ukrainians say?

The vast majority of Ukrainians do not support negotiations with the aggressor country to achieve peace:

● 63.9% of Ukrainian citizens strongly disagree with holding negotiations;

● 23.1% of respondents expressed their readiness to support direct negotiations with russia to ensure peace;

● 13% of respondents were not able to answer the question.

At the same time, ⅔ of Ukrainians believe that reconciliation with russia is impossible:

● 36.3% of respondents believe that reconciliation cannot take place under any circumstances, neither now nor in the future;

● 32.2% of respondents believe that reconciliation is impossible in the lifetime of the current generation;

● 11.9% do not rule out the possibility of reconciliation, but only after the payment of reparations and the trial of war criminals in russia;

● 9.9% of Ukrainians could not answer the question;

● 5.6% allow reconciliation if russia recognizes all the crimes committed and repents;

● 4.1% agree with reconciliation after the end of hostilities.

At the same time, 84% of Ukrainian citizens have a strongly negative attitude toward russians:

● 34.6% of respondents have a negative attitude towards all russian citizens;

● 26.1% to all russians, except for those who actively condemn the actions of the russian authorities;

● 23.3% only to those who supported the armed aggression against Ukraine;

● 9.2% only to representatives of the russian government and putin in particular;

● 5% could not answer the question;

● 1.9% have a positive attitude towards all russians, without exception.

Therefore, we can conclude that all attempts by russia to weaken Ukrainians by breaking their morale with constant rocket attacks and PSYOPS and to force them to sign peace agreements have failed. And the second year of the war has clearly shown that Ukraine will not give up and will confidently move towards the liberation of all its territories!
