Amid numerous compilations of recommendations on where to travel, the authoritative travel publisher Fodor's has released its annual anti-rating — No List 2026. It includes eight popular destinations that, according to experts, can no longer withstand the tourist load and need a break to recover.

Fodor's emphasizes that this list is not a call for a boycott. Rather, it is a “gentle but firm nudge” toward responsible tourism that takes into account the interests of local communities, the environment, and the real capacity of locations to welcome visitors without harming themselves.

Antarctica — the main victim of its own popularity

Antarctica tops the anti-rating. Despite the fact that travel to this continent remains expensive, difficult, and limited in terms of visitor numbers, interest in it has grown significantly. According to Fodor's experts, even a relatively small flow of tourists is already having a negative impact on the region's fragile ecosystem. That is why Antarctica has become a symbol of how popularity can threaten even the most remote corners of the planet.

8 destinations where it is better not to plan a trip in 2026

According to Fodor's, in 2026, it is worth refraining from traveling to the following places:

● Antarctica

● Canary Islands (Spain)

● Glacier National Park, Montana (USA)

● Isola Sacra (Italy)

● Jungfrau region (Switzerland)

● Mexico City (Mexico)

● Mombasa (Kenya)

● Montmartre, Paris (France)

According to the list's compilers, all of these locations face excessive tourist traffic, which puts additional pressure on infrastructure, nature, and the daily lives of local residents.

Why Venice and Barcelona are not on the list

This year, the authors of No List deliberately excluded “classic” anti-rating heroes such as Venice and Barcelona. The goal is to draw attention to other, less obvious destinations that also need protection from tourist oversaturation but are less frequently discussed in public discourse.

According to Fodor's, this approach helps to take a broader view of the problem of overtourism and encourages travelers to be more careful when choosing destinations.

The No List 2026 anti-rating is a reminder that when planning a trip, it is worth considering not only the popularity of a place, but also its actual readiness to receive tourists. If you do decide to travel abroad, it is important to plan your trip down to the smallest detail: from the route to safety.

Ukrainians planning trips to alternative destinations can conveniently book tickets for all types of transport in advance through Visit Ukraine — this helps to plan a route without unnecessary transfers and stress.

It is also worth taking care of protection on the road: medical insurance for traveling abroad, which can be obtained at Visit Ukraine, is a basic condition for a peaceful trip and is often necessary for entry into other countries.
