Snowfalls in Ukraine affect travellers: Ukrzaliznytsia strengthens connections with Prykarpattia

Winter weather is once again testing the resilience of Ukraine's transport system and changing the usual travel routes. Heavy snowfall and blizzards have hampered traffic in the western regions, forcing passengers to look for more reliable ways to reach their destinations. Find out how Ukrzaliznytsia is improving connections with the Carpathian region

Difficult weather conditions in western Ukraine have forced thousands of travellers to change their plans. A powerful snow cyclone has swept across Chernivtsi and Ivano-Frankivsk regions, causing heavy snowstorms, icy roads and a sharp drop in temperature. Against the backdrop of the deteriorating situation on the roads, Ukrzaliznytsia has increased rail connections with the Carpathian region.

Which routes will receive additional carriages

To ensure uninterrupted and safe passenger transport, the carrier has added additional carriages to key trains running from Chernivtsi and Ivano-Frankivsk. Railway workers are working in an enhanced mode and emphasise that train traffic is planned to remain on schedule despite the abnormal precipitation.

In bad weather, the railway remains one of the most reliable modes of transport. Unlike buses and cars, trains are much less dependent on road conditions and limited visibility. That is why passengers planning trips from Prykarpattia and Bukovina are advised to give preference to rail transport.

Train delays are possible

At the same time, travellers are asked to take into account possible minor delays. These may occur due to the need to clear snow from the points, especially on difficult and high-altitude sections. The company notes that such measures are necessary for traffic safety.

Additional tickets for extra trains are already available for sale.

When planning trips to the Carpathians or other regions of Ukraine, it is worth checking ticket availability and possible route options in advance. You can conveniently compare trains and buses and immediately book tickets for all types of transport through the Visit Ukraine booking system. This helps you quickly find the best travel option and plan your trip without unnecessary delays.

Reminder! Until recently, travelling by train meant being completely disconnected from the online world, but now the situation is changing. Ukrzaliznytsia is launching internet access on one of Ukraine's most popular tourist trains, offering passengers access to the network while travelling. Find out which routes already have Wi-Fi, how much it costs to connect, and whether there are plans to expand the service to other trains.
