Wintering for digital nomads is an opportunity to work remotely from warm or comfortable countries around the world. Find out which countries are suitable for work, what the conditions are like there, and the costs of living and visas
Winter is not a reason to put your life on hold. For digital nomads, on the contrary, it is the perfect time to change location: move to a place that is warmer, cheaper, or simply more interesting, and combine work with new experiences. Today, more and more countries offer special visas, stable internet, and clear conditions for remote work.
Below is a list of destinations that are well suited for wintering and remote work: with different climates, budgets, and rules, but with one thing in common — they are comfortable for digital nomads.
Egypt: warmth, sea, and affordable living
Egypt has long been an unofficial “winter base” for digital nomads. In winter, the temperature here is 18–24 °C, there is plenty of sunshine, and food and accommodation are affordable — from hostels to apartments and villas. Dahab on the Sinai Peninsula is especially popular: a quiet town with low prices and an active nomad community.
Wi-Fi is available almost everywhere — in cafes, coworking spaces, and hotels. At the same time, it is worth considering that the internet speed in Egypt is average, and for complex tasks, it is better to have a mobile backup.
Visa requirements are simple: a 30-day visa can be obtained online or upon arrival. And you can enter Sinai without a visa for 15 days, which is what makes Dahab so popular.
Sri Lanka: ocean, surfing, and peaceful work
Winter in Sri Lanka means dry weather, warm ocean, and waves for surfing. The island attracts with its low cost of living, friendly atmosphere, and many beautiful locations.
For digital nomads, there is a special one-year visa with the possibility of extension. It allows you to work remotely without paying local taxes, but prohibits employment in local companies.
The internet in large cities — Colombo, Kandy, Galle — is stable, with coworking spaces and work-friendly cafes. In smaller cities, the speed may be lower, but it is sufficient for most tasks.
Portugal: Europe with an ocean and stability
Portugal is one of the most popular destinations for nomads in Europe. Winters here are mild (around +15 °C), although it rains frequently. On the other hand, there is fast internet, a high quality of life, and favorable legislation.
The Digital Nomad Visa allows you to legally live and work in the country for 12 months, and the resident option allows you to stay for up to 2 years with the prospect of extension and permanent residence. The visa gives you access to 26 Schengen countries, and family members can move with the main applicant.

Croatia: Schengen, sea, and a relaxed pace
Croatia combines a moderate cost of living, quality service, and fast internet. It is quieter here in winter than during the season, but that is only a plus for work. And as a bonus, there are familiar landscapes from Game of Thrones.
A digital nomad visa allows you to live in the country for 12 months without paying taxes on income from abroad. You can also bring your family over through reunification.
Germany: stability and a large market
Germany is an option for those looking for structure, reliability, and a high standard of living. There is a visa for freelancers or entrepreneurs that allows you to stay for up to three years.
The procedure is more complicated than in “warm” countries and requires careful preparation of documents. But in return, you get access to a strong economy, healthcare, and infrastructure.
Greece: mild winters and tax benefits
Greece attracts visitors with its mild winters, history, islands, and the opportunity to travel within the Schengen area. The Digital Nomad Visa allows you to stay for up to two years and offers tax benefits: after obtaining residency, you can take advantage of a 50% tax discount.
The internet is stable, and there are coworking spaces in Athens, Thessaloniki, and on popular islands.
Estonia: a digital state for nomads
Estonia is not about warmth, but about the ideal digital ecosystem. It was here that the world's first Digital Nomad Visa was introduced. High-speed internet, coworking spaces, and an active IT community make the country convenient for work.
The visa is issued for 12 months, the application is submitted online, and the process is as transparent as possible.
Thailand: a classic destination for nomads in winter
Thailand is almost synonymous with wintering for digital nomads. It offers a warm climate, low prices, fast internet, and a huge international community.
The Digital Nomad Visa allows you to stay in the country for up to five years with multiple entries. There is no tax on foreign income, which makes Thailand particularly attractive for freelancers.
Tip: When planning to spend the winter abroad by car, it is important to check the requirements for toll roads in European countries in advance. In many of them, an electronic road vignette is required to travel on motorways. Ukrainian drivers can apply for it online for travel abroad via Visit Ukraine — this will help avoid fines and travel between countries without unnecessary stops at the border.
