Georgia has extended free medical care for Ukrainians until April 2026: what you need to know
Georgia continues to support Ukrainians who have been forced to leave their homes due to the war. Find out who is eligible for free medical care in Georgia, what services are covered by the program, and under what conditions the right to treatment will remain in effect until 2026
The Georgian government has extended its free medical care program for Ukrainian refugees until April 1, 2026. The relevant decree was signed by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze. This was reported by the publication Sova.
The decision means that Ukrainians living in Georgia due to the war will continue to have access to a wide range of medical services on terms similar to those of state medical insurance for Georgian citizens.
Who is eligible for free medical care in Georgia
Ukrainian citizens who permanently reside in Georgia and arrived in the country due to the hostilities are eligible to participate in the program. At the same time, the government clearly defines what permanent residence status means:
● it is retained if a person leaves Georgia for a short period of time — up to three days;
● it is lost if the stay outside the country is prolonged.
Compliance with this condition is key to maintaining access to free medical services under the state program.

What medical services does the program cover for Ukrainians?
The extended program covers both routine and emergency medical care. Ukrainian refugees in Georgia can receive the following services free of charge:
● immunization;
● treatment for tuberculosis, HIV, and AIDS;
● medical care for mothers and children;
● psychiatric and psychological support;
● treatment for diabetes;
● dialysis procedures;
● treatment for rare diseases;
● ongoing replacement therapy for medical reasons;
● doctor consultations;
● emergency medical care, including childbirth and emergency interventions.
"According to the government's order, social and economic support measures include assistance in the amount of 300 lari per family and 45 lari per person. Funding will be provided by the Social Services Agency based on a list provided by the National Agency for Internally Displaced Persons, Emigrants, and Livelihood Support," the publication notes.
Despite the existence of a state program, it is important to remember that it only applies to permanent residents of the country. That is why it is advisable for Ukrainians abroad to have additional medical insurance that will cover expenses during trips or stays outside their country of residence. Ukrainians can apply for medical insurance for travel abroad online on the Visit Ukraine platform, which allows them to quickly obtain an insurance policy and be protected in case of illness or emergency care while traveling.
We remind you! Georgia attracts immigrants with the friendliness of its locals, opportunities for finding housing and employment, low taxes, and minimal bureaucracy. Read about the rules for Ukrainians entering Georgia, whether you need to apply for a visa, find a job, and obtain a residence permit.
