Christmas and New Year's holidays are traditionally associated with evening walks, meetings and celebrations, but during martial law, security rules remain a priority. That's why Kyiv residents and tourists keep asking whether the curfew will be lifted on the night of December 25 and New Year's Eve.

According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, the issue of changing the regime has not been considered yet, and the capital will continue to adhere to the current restrictions.

In our previous article, we talked about the peculiarities of planning a trip to Kyiv for the Christmas season 2025/26.

Will the curfew in Kyiv change for Christmas and New Year?

As of now, the military command of the capital is not considering reducing or canceling the curfew during the holidays. The KCMA confirmed that neither targeted nor general changes are planned, as security risks remain high.

According to the administration, the practice of previous years shows that even during national holidays, restrictions remain in effect - this is a necessary step to protect residents and visitors of the capital. It is also emphasized that the possible harm from relaxing the rules far outweighs the social importance of mass celebrations.

As a reminder, according to the current order of the Head of the Kyiv City Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the curfew in Kyiv is in effect from 00:00 to 05:00. During this period, it is forbidden to be on the streets and in public places without a special permit. It is allowed to leave only to get to the nearest shelter in case of air raid alarm.

How will public transportation work on holiday nights?

Despite the unchanged curfew regime, the operation of transport in the capital will remain stable.

Ground transportation will run according to the current schedule - no special changes are planned for Christmas and New Year.

On the night of December 25, the subway will operate as usual, in accordance with the requirements of the curfew. At the same time, subway stations will traditionally be available as shelters during air raid alerts.

Foreigners currently in the capital or planning a trip to Ukraine should also be reminded that medical insurance covering military risks remains an important condition for their stay. This is a guarantee of safety and confidence in unforeseen situations. The most convenient way to obtain such insurance is through the Visit Ukraine service, which offers policies adapted to the conditions of martial law.

We remind you! Taxis may be allowed to operate at night in the capital. Read more about how night transportation is planned to be organized, what control rules the authorities are considering, and what it will mean for passengers and taxi services.
