On December 3, Kiev will traditionally launch its official Christmas tree fairs, where residents can purchase natural coniferous trees, holiday decorations, and home décor. According to the Department of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development of the Kiev City State Administration, the fairs will open gradually and run until December 31, so there will be plenty of time to prepare for the holidays.

The main advantage of official locations is the control of the quality and origin of the trees. Each tree must have a special tag or chip confirming its legal origin. The fairs also offer a wide selection of pines, firs, and spruces of various sizes, along with stands, garlands, and other New Year's accessories.

Choosing a New Year's tree: what to consider before buying?

• Choose a tree with fresh, elastic needles — they should not fall off.

• Pay attention to the tag or chip — this is a guarantee of legal harvesting.

• To keep the tree fresh longer, place it in water and keep it away from batteries.

• If you want the most environmentally friendly option, consider buying a potted tree — after the holidays, it can be planted in the ground or returned for recycling.

• Before buying, ask the seller about the date the tree was cut — the closer it is to the day of sale, the longer the tree will last at home.
