A new train is being launched in Europe that could be useful for Ukrainians: details
Europe continues to develop its international train network, offering new routes for comfortable travel without transfers. The EuroNight night train will start operating next year. Find out which countries the train will connect and how much tickets will cost
The European railway network continues to develop actively, offering travellers more and more convenient routes without transfers. Starting next year, a new international night train, EuroNight, will connect Switzerland and Sweden — from Basel to Malmö. This route may be of particular interest to Ukrainians living or travelling in Europe. This was reported by Travel off Path.
New route through four countries
According to the Swiss Federal Railways, the train is scheduled to launch on 15 April 2026. Three times a week, the train will run between Basel and Malmö, passing through Germany and Denmark. The train will cover a distance of over 1,100 kilometres in approximately 16 hours, offering a picturesque journey through a variety of European landscapes and cities.
The train will stop at key locations such as Freiburg, Karlsruhe, Mannheim, Frankfurt (Main) South, Hamburg, Padborg, Kolding, Odense, Høje Taastrup and Copenhagen Airport, making the route convenient for those planning stops along the way.

Timetable and passenger amenities
Departures from Basel are scheduled for Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 17:35, arriving in Malmö the next day at 9:35. In the opposite direction, trains will depart on Thursday, Saturday and Monday at 18:57, arriving in Switzerland the next morning.
Passengers have access to approximately 350 seats in various classes: standard seating, sleeping compartments and private compartments for greater comfort.
Ticket prices have not yet been announced, but, similar to other EuroNight routes, prices are expected to start at $27 for a seat and reach $215 for a private compartment.
For many Ukrainians who travel to Europe, work or study abroad, this route could be a convenient alternative to air travel. Basel is located near an airport served by low-cost airlines, and Malmö is the gateway to Scandinavia, with Copenhagen just 30 minutes away by train.
In addition, travelling by train allows you to avoid air travel restrictions, carry more luggage and enjoy European landscapes.
Night trains in Europe
Night routes are regaining popularity in Europe. Against the backdrop of environmental initiatives and rising airfares, more and more travellers are choosing trains as a sustainable and comfortable way to travel. EuroNight already connects dozens of major cities, including Vienna, Berlin, Prague and Brussels, and is now adding a route to Northern Europe.
